/r/Streetwear is looking for more mods! Apply within Posted: 16 Aug 2021 01:34 AM PDT Off the bat I'd like to acknowledge that the moderation has been lax recently, I'm sure you don't need another spiel about burnout/covid/etc. We want to improve this and have put a few strategies in place to help with this. One of the main things is that we are looking for a few new moderators for the subreddit, if there are enough applications we'll be looking at add up to 5 new mods in various timezones. Please answer the following as a reply to this thread - you can send it via modmail if you really need to but we'd prefer to keep them in here. The thread will be placed in context mode - this means that other people can vote on your reply but it won't make any difference and it won't be visible to users. Question 1: What time zone are you in? Question 2: What would make you a good moderator of /r/streetwear? Question 3: How do you think the quality of posts in /r/streetwear could best be raised? Question 4: What else would you change about /r/streetwear? Think of this as an opportunity to show yourself off - previous moderation, specific coding skills, automod experience etc should all form part of your response if you have any skills in these areas. Posted: 16 Aug 2021 02:38 AM PDT These communities deserve respect and credit. To use the soft boy aesthetic as an example: the genesis of wearing traditionally femme clothes or make-up (or other clothes which serve as a cultural marker of traditionally "feminine" traits), specifically in the west, was influenced by queer people. It was not straight men getting interested in these things that has made the aesthetic safe for queer people, it was queer people who couldn't hide who they were and suffered for it who created representation and these style niches, which have now been taken up by non-queer people. It's great that society is becoming more open and understanding, and it's great that these aesthetics (and the values they represent!) are flowing into the mainstream, but using them while tearing queer, POC, or trans people down is unacceptable. The reality is that people still get murdered, harassed, discriminated against in the workplace, hate-crimed, and assaulted every day. The absolute least we can do is not make anti-trans or other hateful comments in a fashion sub while wearing the very pieces that are acceptable due to their identity and courage [link] [comments] | ||
