The internet has both improved and fucked fashion

The internet has given reach to others and helped inspire people from all age ranges to discover styles and looks they wouldn't be able to be exposed to in their local area/ day to day life and has no doubt allowed others to find new found confidence. Looking good makes you feel good and having a populace that feels good is great. It's a good feedback loop.

But it has also, and especially these past 2 years, lead to fast fashion becoming such a big issue. Upcycling has taken off and gotten adopted by a lot of people but it's still an issue.

Trends were seasonal but slowly up until 2017-18 it became yearly. Now due to tiktok, it's borderline almost insane how quick trends get picked up and quickly thrown out. Trends can be seen on Monday and be kinda lame by the following week.

Before the internet and social media in general became so widespread, dressing well was actually a trait you could describe someone by. They instinctively could put a good outfit together that complimented them and their strengths. They had an eye for detail, it was natural to them.Dressing a certain way because that was who they were, doing their hair a certain way because that was their genuinely unique flair, their trademark. They'd mix and match things and cobble them together to make something that had significance to them.

Styles were personal.

Now someone can go on insta or tiktok and get the exact same outfit down to the socks just to look like an influencer because they think that's what you have to wear to look fashionable.

All you'll see are clones walking about.

There are stylish people out there, but they're lost in a sea of copy cats with money to blow and no taste.

I think that sneakers are become too much about branding and not about style and fashion. The name carries weight of course, but I feel like there is something more we can get, what do you think?
