South African Streetwear

Posted: 15 Jan 2017 11:17 AM PST

I want to share a bit about South Africa's fashion and streetwear culture which deserves to be known by more people. SA has seen its fashion scene boom in recent years, due to its young people finally having the chance to express themselves without the obstacles of the past. SA is incredibly culturally diverse, which paired with closer links to the rest of the world due to the internet, makes for some amazing fashion.

Cape Town and Johannesburg in particular have a devoted streetwear community. Walking around the trendiest parts of town, you will find some of the dopest fits imaginable. In Cape Town, the vibe is centered around skate and surf with a more laid back aesthetic. You will see lots of the classic big t-shirt, black jeans, Vans combo. That said, more traditional hypebeast style is coming to the fore, especially after Kanye blessed us with his TLOP pop up last year. Joburg has a slightly more 'African' aesthetic, with more traditional bright colours and bold patterns as well as more high quality fashion. Of course, everyone is wearing a wide variety of styles at all times. More and more, people are experimenting with fashion and trying out some outrageous stuff, which I think can only be a good thing.

Anyway, I just wanted to give a short intro into what's going on in SA's streetwear scene. I believe a big part of being a fashion enthusiast is exploring other cultures. In summary, SA is dope and you should all visit. Here are some links to check out more of SA's growing fashion culture.

How often do y'all compliment someone out in public wearing a dope fit?

Posted: 14 Jan 2017 07:51 PM PST

I saw this girl in a pablo tee and boosts at the mall the other day while I was walking around with some friends. I wanted to compliment her on the fit, but all I could muster was the word "Kanye" as she walked by.

EDIT: Toronto Kanye girl if you're out there hmu

Is streetwear becoming main stream in anyone else's area?

Posted: 14 Jan 2017 04:36 PM PST

When i first started dressing street wearish about 2 years ago, i was pretty much the only one doing it. Fast forward to today, and almost half the school is wearing bombers layered over hoodies,Bape, Supreme, Oversized tees, CDG,flannels, ripped and skinny jeans, UBs, ASSC, NMDs, Yeezys, Old Skools and Stan Smiths. It's mostly the rich Asians and white kids who rock the Yeezys and hype shit though.

But yeah, i guess Instagram and other social media really helped streetwear wear boom. Kids who used to wear Zumiez and stuff like that now wear Palace, Zara, Alpha Industries, HM, shit like that. It's not only the guys, I've seen tons of girls wearing Ultra Boosts and shit. I've started dressing more unique because i don't want to look like every onr else.

So, have any of yall experienced something similar? I'm from the Vancouver suburbs.

Beaters of r/streetwear

Posted: 14 Jan 2017 10:53 PM PST

Was thinking of putting together an album similar to the faces of r/atheism however instead of using users faces, use photos of their beaters. This is not entirely serious but considering how many people on this sub froth over beat up shoes I thought it would be cool if we got an album together of our own beat as fuck sneakers.

I'd be happy to put the whole thing together if people pmd me photos of their beaters or commented or whatever idc.

thank
