Excuse the cheesy shitty title lol. Couldnt really think of one
Why I'm posting this: Was looking through my imgur uploads and saw a lot of my old uploads compared to what I upload now. Not trying to say I have amazing fits just that I am so much more comfortable in myself and what I wear and I post here a lot so thought people might find it interesting to see the journey. Plus im bored as shit. Also promise there will be some words of wisdom at the bottom lol jk.
Part 1-
Pre reddit. Wasn't interested in fashion at all, no pics but classic cargo wearing dorito eating neckbeard type shit. Use your imagination.
Part 2-
Started to become interested in fashion, this was the MFA stage. Really not too good at first as you can see from these pictures here. However started improving as the understanding of how stuff fit got better as you can see in these pictures here. Was at this stage for about 9 months and learnt a lot from browsing mfa with outfit feedback threads and waywt being the main points of help. There were also a lot of bad fits that didn't get photographed as I was always trying stuff out. Bought a lot of fast fashion here, stuff like zara and asos and HM.
Part 3-
Found /r/streetwear, went backwards at first as tried to work out different styles and silhouettes and got it wrong an awful lot as can be seen in these pics. Very big learning curve but learnt a lot from just browsing constantly.
Part 4-
As I browsed /r/streetwear more things got a bit better. Started experimenting more but still very hit and miss with fits, some decent and some very meh. Not really any individual style, just copying stuff from inspo albums ect. Pictures from this point are here, (quite a few pics in here).
Part 5-
After this I found /r/malefashion and ktt but didn't start posting. Spent a lot of time lurking and again another step forward but 2 steps back. Fits got a bit weird as tried to progress but a lot look confused as to what I was going for. However I learnt a lot and this is where the formation of my own style started to appear imo. Also stopped buying loads and loads of fast fashion which was a real turning point. Realised how much better it is to buy less but make it quality stuff. Not many pictures from here as I didn't post, was just working on fits in the real world (scary place). But here a few I have found
Part 6-
Started to post on ktt and /r/malefashion. This is where the biggest improvements came as got very good feedback and really worked out what worked for me. Really helped getting exposure to different styles and even if they weren't my cup of tea it helped me with ideas massively. Will put the photos from this stage in the next part as they are sort of together.
Part 7-
This is where I am now and have been for about 6 months. I search high and low for cool pieces that I like and then when I get them I try to work out how to utilise them best and how to make them work, always experimenting and trying different stuff, some of which works and some of it doesn't. When you buy a cool piece sometimes it isn't gonna look amazing first few times u try put it in a fit. Like anything else in life you gotta practice and work on it and you will work out how to make it work. I am a big fan of having a few different styles in the locker (SLP, Rick, techwear ect if you wanna give them names). Album of recent fit pics is here
Conclusion of my dissertation
But yeah, I see a lot of beginners on this forum get frustrated when they aren't 100% happy in what they are wearing. It's a process. It's a journey. Enjoy it. Take your time. I see guides in here that make it seem like being happy with the way you dress is like ticking a checklist and buying a few pieces and then you'll be buzzin but it's not like that. It has taken me 4 years to be happy in what I wear and it has been a very fun journey and still plenty left to go, but yeah always be experimenting and trying new stuff. Don't be disheartened if your fit doesn't get a load of upvotes or if you yourself don't like it. Look at it and see how you can improve and just immerse yourself in fashion forums/magazines/inspo albums ect. Don't stop working on it until you're happy with the way you dress yourself.
Anyway enough rambling, any questions hmu, peace out
