Guys i need help/advice no idea what to do

Posted: 17 May 2017 12:32 PM PDT

*i live in an apartment building where you need a key to get in

So i was one of the lucky chosen ones to be able to cop a pair of the cream white yeezys. it was a supposed to be a blessing, but now its a mess. the shoes were supposed to be delivered on the 6th so i made sure i was home all day to be able to receive them. i woke up at about 8 am to check the tracking and see where it was. At this point, it still hasnt left for delivery. i check back at about 10am and see it left for delivery at about 9:30am. so now im checking my email about every 30 min. i check my email at around 12:30pm and see that the package was delivered at 12:02 pm (left at front door) which already made me worry since i didnt hear a knock/ doorbell. I open the door and there is nothing. Before freaking out i check the main office since most packages are usually left there, but the office manager tells me there has been nothing. At this point i know something fishy happened. i immediately call adidas and they are just telling me what i know already and that the driver delivered the package. they tell me they will launch an investigation, so i call fedex to try to get more info, but they basically told me the exact same thing.

so today i get an email from adidas saying fedex denied my lost package investigation and now im speechless. before calling adidas, i get a call from fedex telling me pretty much the same thing again. i tell them that its not possible that it got delivered since i was home all day but they dont really care. they said they contacted the driver and he confirmed the address? i need some help on what to do, this is the first time this has happened to me. i cant believe im out my yeezys and $240.

Who else is an "old head?"

Posted: 17 May 2017 09:02 AM PDT

Man I didn't think being in your mid-twenties made you an "old head," but shit here I am. When I was in high school it was AF1s and SB Dunks instead of Yeezys. Supreme was always Supreme, for better and worse. Flight Club went from 1 to 4 NY locations mad fast. Jordans were way rarer because OG CW's hadn't been retro'd to death, but everyone bitched about the Jumpman logo. Sole Collector's marketplace and ISS forum was dope, I was in the "Grammy Family" that was the "elite" group on the Music forum lollllll.

It is funny seeing today's high school kids do the same shit I did back then. A lot has changed, but the nature of the game is the same. Any other grown ass men on here remember the shit I'm talking about? Or how about any of the "old heads" when I was a kid myself?

Someone fill me in?

Posted: 17 May 2017 05:01 PM PDT

What happened to this sub in like the last month or so? This sub went from people posting fits everyday (I wasn't really feeling that), to this really boring ass layout where the majority of it are a bunch of red discussion tags and the only images I really see are from articles or just w2c or ID.

I guess this ties into that other guys post from earlier kinda. I got into and really fucked with this sub when most of it were pretty nice, different Fit pics, and all the basic, "needs more practice/help" posts were in the wdywt thread or only posted to literally ask for input or help.

TLDR: This sub looks dead due to this layout and it's dropped in quality over the past year or two.

Lets discuss: Sandals

Posted: 17 May 2017 12:41 PM PDT

I've recently bought a pair of Suicoke sandals (Suicoke Kisee-V 2 to be specific) and I've already gotten a few comments on them.

This is now my shot to make a good discussion: Here is some question to answer and to have an opinion on:

What do you think about sandals?

Can you wear socks in sandals?

Trousers and sandals or shorts and sandals? (How would you make them both work best)

What do you think about my new pair of sandals? Did i pay too much?

What would you wear with my pair?

..... Let me hear from you guys - I want to see this sub to evolve now.

[WDYWT] Streetwear is srs business

Posted: 16 May 2017 12:36 PM PDT

I can't take this sub seriously anymore

Posted: 16 May 2017 10:48 PM PDT

It's literally flooded with a bunch of trend following, unimaginative, insecure, attention seeking high schoolers who just want to be part of the next cool thing.

To put it into context, since the start of 2017, this sub has gained over 60k followers. A year ago this day, this sub had less than 100k followers. What this basically means is that at least half of this sub are just wannabe trendfollowers looking to get on the next cool thing, and yet somehow, every one of these people seem to constantly have uneducated/uncultured opinions that they can't wait to express, even though they are barely part of the culture themselves.

And I'm 100% sure those of you who have been on this sub for more than a year have noticed both a huge drop in the quality of content, and a very drastic change in what kind of content is popular. Obviously as a sub get's bigger the content will be less consistently good, but the rapid speed of the change is immense. I took a break from this sub for a few months during this past school year, and coming back has been a shock for me.

I could go on and on about what I find wrong with the sub. From low effort posts of a single picture of pink GR Vans getting hundreds of upvotes, to the influx of shit tier, mediocre fits getting attention due to good photography, or low cost of fit after the short period of WDYWT rule changes. Prominent posters such as /u/thisistheodore who have actually made innovations and set trends within this subreddit stopped posting/commenting because the feedback and discussions are just between ignorant high schoolers who think they know what the fuck they're talking, despite being on this sub for 3 months and still shopping predominantly at H&M. It's almost funny hearing people here shit talking other fashion communities such as /r/malefashionadvice when the content and community on this sub is so much worse.

For those of you who are inevitably going to respond "if you don't like it here, leave," that's exactly what I plan to do. I just wanted to leave a few pieces of advice that would probably improve the quality of the sub a ton as a last ditch effort to make a difference to a community I once really enjoyed being a part of. If you're mature enough to not feel personally invalidated by this call out, kudos to you. Don't make this sub the next r/teenagers.

  1. Don't post or comment your opinions until you've at least lurked for 6 months. Preferably a year. I've been in "the game" for about 2 years and I still feel completely ignorant about many aspects of fashion and street culture, and my opinions on certain aspects of streetwear are still unfounded. I feel like I still have a ton I could learn about dressing better. If this sub was a college classroom, it would be as if all the students were yelling over one another trying to convince each other of their opinions while the voice of the professor, who isn't necessarily always right, gets drowned out. There are a ton of veteran users here who have a ton of quality content to offer but you guys are too wrapped up in yourselves to see it and it literally hides/discourages a bunch of good content.

  2. Get a job. Fashion costs money. Deal with it. Having no money isn't an excuse that will make your fit better. I'm not saying you have to be decked out in $300 designer clothing. But not having money to buy nice clothes isn't something to be proud of.

  3. Gain some confidence. This sub has became a place where an influx of teenagers are trying to find something they can conform to, so they can be cool, which goes against the entire idea of streetwear, which is to create a picture through your clothes that represent you. Stop throwing buzzwords in your posts that beg for the approval of others. This isn't a place for you to get approval. It's a place for you to showcase your personality, and for others to pick up a little inspiration from your confidence. Also, approval is completely different from feedback. Approval is needing other people's thoughts on pink vans before you buy them. Feedback is asking if your jeans are too tight and what brands/things can you do to make your pants look/fit better.

  4. Not everything is streetwear. Wearing a dad cap isn't streetwear. Ultra boosts aren't streetwear. Wearing a denim jacket isn't streetwear. Come back with posts when you've defined your own style.

Anyways, I hope you guys can read this and take it in/discuss it without getting all personally attacked and offended. Cheers.

/R/STREETWEAR SPOTIFY PLAYLIST SS17

Posted: 16 May 2017 02:36 PM PDT

Hi everyone, finally got around to creating the third edition of the /r/Streetwear Spotify playlist. For anyone who doesn't know, this is a collaborative playlist that allows you to share the music you like with the community and discover new songs and artists! If you want to check out the last two there will be a link below.

Here's how it works. You put songs into the temp playlist (https://open.spotify.com/user/12182771535/playlist/4Tuyxb2yptWTZrob5opCZn) and I will place them onto the official playlist that cannot be edited. I will be moving the songs a couple times a day for the next week or so.

SS17 Link: https://open.spotify.com/user/12182771535/playlist/6eWqHoI2T6lIsxks8EOEDD

RULES:

  1. Try to avoid repeats, this is inevitable but if you can avoid putting in a song that is already on the list

  2. All genres of music are allowed (Yes that includes the entirety of Earth II that was put on the last one)

  3. No deleting songs from the temp playlist

  4. Try to avoid dragging an entire album onto the playlist (unless you truly think every song deserves to be on there)

  5. Have fun! :)

Hopefully this goes as smoothly as the last two and everyone can find some new tunes they like! I found so much good stuff on the last two that I had never heard before.

FW16: https://open.spotify.com/user/12182771535/playlist/5ilhgtjvBGisgATMXcYbn7

SS16: https://open.spotify.com/user/12182771535/playlist/2cXTzVdgLml7Ckt0OBXvg8

Update: Wow we have almost 600 songs already! You guys are putting some really good stuff in here. Feel free to add to the temp playlist anytime this week and I will try to update the main as often as I can!

[Discussion] How important is following trends to fashion? How important is ditching trends when they go out of fashion?

Posted: 16 May 2017 01:08 PM PDT

I saw some threads yesterday that I have been thinking about for a while. People were talking about trends and trends dying and it made me realize that I genuinely enjoy some of the trends going on that are near the end of their lifespan, like elongated curved hem tees.

https://www.reddit.com/r/streetwear/comments/6bcp5y/trends_that_are_getting_populardying/

How important to your personal sense of fashion is it to abandon trends, like zipper jeans or elongated tees, when they die?

Hey everyone,

I wanted your advice on how to find your style.

What are your influences or things you like that implement your fashion sense?

edit: For me I am really into London based styles but the problem for me is, I don't know how to mesh them together or how to ''define'' it. For example I will show 2 different Instagram's of what I believe are different styles that I like. https://www.instagram.com/arranliu/ https://www.instagram.com/shaminelim/

Incorporating a "classic punk" aesthetic into Streetwear

Posted: 16 May 2017 05:01 AM PDT

So basically I was big into classic punk aesthetic for a bit for a few years, and it cultivated to me assembling this piece (it has a few more patches on it now. On its own with my "punx casual" (black cutoff shorts and a band tee, maybe some boots or black vans) it works, but I was curious if there's any ways to infuse that "punk" aesthetic into streetwear beyond mallpunk. I'm not even just talking the vest, I mean in general. I regularly don a lock-and-key necklace with my fits but that's as far as I go, and I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas for combining the two fashion statements.

Or do we make like The Offspring and keep em separated?
