Moving Away From Hype Brands

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 04:17 PM PDT

just wanted to discuss how you guys moved away from hype brands? IF that's where you started. I personally started with supreme and palace, and now I'm trying to move away from those brands.

Did you guys start there? Or did you start with higher end stuff?

What higher end stuff do you guys rock?

Hype brands get lots of shit thrown on them but TBH I don't feel it's fair. Thoughts?

what is fashion for you? /discussion/

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 05:32 AM PDT

just wanna spark a bit of community discussion about fashion and what it is for different people. I'm thinking tell us your general age range and occupation (if you're comfortable) then talk about why you're into fashion, what it means to you, where you intend to go with it, etc.

I'll start. I'm a 21 y/o fashion design student. I love fashion as a form of artistic and personal expression. at this point like 80% of my time is spent designing, buying or trying on clothes so it's definitely a passion for me. the way I dress makes me feel confident and attractive which makes me happy and my life better :) I really just aim to be experimenting with my style and working in the fashion industry for the rest of my life

so yeah, pls input

Pretty Interesting Documentary about Streetwear

Posted: 19 Jun 2017 11:53 AM PDT

Any techwear guys interested in something like this?

Posted: 19 Jun 2017 01:28 PM PDT

I was thinking about creating some very thin backpacks to carry everyday stuff so you don't have to overload pockets. I would be standard size as far as covering your back goes, but it would only have a depth of 1/2" to 1". Think of it like the size of a camelback but with no water bladder.

They would be matte black made of waterproof Gore-Tex, or possible stretchy neoprene. the idea is to be adding some storage without affecting aesthetics and side profile. it would also be tight to your body which would make it feel like your aren't really wearing anything.

Main pocket would be the size of a small netbook, and stretch neoprene zipper pockets for phone, wallet, chargers etc. I could have water repellant holes for headphones too. I would go for the aesthetic techwear look with military inspiration. No big logo showing, either matte black with subtle satin black logo or small matte white logo. Maybe a simple bare Velcro rectangle at the top for a patch.

These would be fitting to the body if you size correctly, so you could basically fit it under a jacket with no noticeable bulge (or wear it over if you like the look that much)

it would be similar to this:

http://cdn.hiconsumption.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Y-3-Sport-Backpack-0.jpg

but matte black materials, military style molle attachment areas and possible a buckle or two to attach any necessary items on the exterior that wont fit inside.

Also it WONT be over $410.00 like the adidas one lol

Does anyone else get genuinely frustrated when people buy things for the sole purpose of reselling?

Posted: 19 Jun 2017 08:16 AM PDT

I understand there's a market and people want to make money, and that there are some people who get sick of wearing a certain item and want to resell it to try and get everyone... but my problem is the sole reselling of buying it just to gouge the person who genuinely wanted "Insert product here".

Ex) Kith has dropped their logo t shirt in different colors for the last 2 weeks on Monday.. this week I really wanted the baby blue shirt, got it in my cart at PayPal... sold out -_- Go on grailed and people are already asking for 2-2.5x retail!

I acknowledge I'm probably in the minority within this sub, and a little bitter since this happened less than 15 minutes ago, BUT I felt like I'd voice my dissatisfaction with this!

You guys have a great Monday and keep up the good WDYT posts!

These did not get sold for their asking price of $15'000. Discuss.

PROBLEMS WITH STREETWEAR NEWS, AND POTENTIAL SOLUTION

Posted: 19 Jun 2017 12:13 PM PDT

I was wondering if there were any blogs out there that focussed on streetwear, while also being predominantly written by various streetwear enthusiasts as opposed to a few employees?

Hypebeast is the exact opposite of this idea for example, since it revolves around headlines that appeal more to the everyday news reader (not streetwear fans) and is edited and run by a few employees who arguably don't represent the majority of streetwear enthusiasts.

I feel nowadays larger and larger numbers of people are being drawn into the streetwear culture and fashion as a whole, due to the rise of many brands such as Supreme etc. While I love this, I believe it (understandably) forces news outlets such as the aforementioned Hypebeast and others, such as High Snobiety, to center their business towards churning out huge amounts of easily readable, not very detailed articles. In essence, nearly all these outlets are sacrificing quality, and arguably appeal to streetwear and fashion fans, for mass appeal.

If there are none, or there is sufficient support for an alternative, maybe we could come together to make a blog where lots of people can submit detailed, in-depth (this is what would separate it from /r/streetwear) posts?

I would extremely happy to answer any and all questions regarding this post, and I do hope that you upvote this if you would like this, or some variation, of this idea. However, if you disagree with this post, I hope you state your reasons why instead of simply downvoting, thus pushing my post down the newsfeed and alienating potential supporters. Surely every idea deserves consideration, whether you agree with it or not?

Watches and streetwear

Posted: 19 Jun 2017 02:24 PM PDT

I have noticed that most of the fits here do not include watches, and some for obvious reasons.

I know that more classic (and expensive) watches might be more accepted here, but I personally enjoy the Casio F-91W, especially because of it's price tag. I personally wear a black one with nearly everything as most of what I wear is darker. However, there are multiple colors and metals to this watch, so it can be changed pretty easily.

(I personally think that pocket watches are out, as they are sometimes considered to be part of the neckbeard package.)

What are your opinions on classic watches? On cheap digital watches?

Tank tops in fits?

What does everyone think of tank tops in fits? Have you seen fits that looks really good with them?

I know the general message is wear what you want because you want to. But I'm curious what everyone thinks.
