A guide to (under $500) watches Posted: 03 Jul 2017 09:39 PM PDT Greetings, watch snob here. A recent post asking about watches that go with streetwear inspired me to write somewhat of a guide about the topic. Bare in mind I'm writing this as not just a fashion guide but also one from a watch persons perspective on watches that are actually worth you spending money on, are good watches, and will last you a long time if you take care of them. A few quick disclaimers, good automatic watches can be had at any price, don't let Swiss marketing fool you. (for those who don't know automatic means it has a movement that winds itself and does not require a battery. Watches that use a battery and generally quartz if they are analog.) My tastes may not be for everyone, feel free to explore for yourself! With that in mind really look into watches you are going to purchase to see if they are worth the price tag or if you are paying for their marketing campaigns. Without further rambling, some good options for under $500: Both of these are amazing divers, worn by watch snobs all around the world. They are reliable, good looking, and incredibly moddable(if you are into that sort of thing) Monster: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/monster-comp.jpg Another great diver, real bang for your buck. There is a limited edition series called the night monster that works particularly well with streetwear. Seiko 5: these range from very basic looking to rather extravagent. I highly reccomend checking the line out for yourself. Citizen: Navihawk: a quartz watch but if you want the busy dial pilot look it's great for the price. https://cdn2.jomashop.com/media/catalog/product/c/i/citizen-navihawk-utc-eco-drive-chronograph-black-dial-stainless-steel-mesh-men_s-watch-jy8030-83e_1.jpg Casio: Gshock: there are a whole lot of these. Good look, and you can beat the ever living hell out of them and they will still work. Classic: the classic lineup speaks for itself http://www.casio.com/products/watches/classic Timex: Virtually all of them, if it's your style and you don't want to spend a lot check em out and go nuts. Orient: Ray 2: https://cdn3.volusion.com/htlyr.vuqkj/v/vspfiles/photos/AA02005D-2.jpg?1460028259 Mako 2: https://cdn3.volusion.com/htlyr.vuqkj/v/vspfiles/photos/AA02001B-4.jpg?1460030725 Brands that I would avoid in this price range(This is part general consensus of the watch community and part personal opinion. Take it with a grain of salt): Invicta, Nixon, any "minimilist" watch brand like Daniel Wellington(most of these watches are worth $10 and sold for $300), mostly all watched from fashion companies(again, very cheap watch your paying for the brand.) Keep in mind watch bracelets are very easy to swap out and can be done at home. Replacements such as NATO straps can be gotten for very cheap so don't write off a watch because you don't like the bracelet it is on. There's my under $500 watch guide. I tried to keep it short(ish) with a few suggestions. All the brands I mentioned are (generally) good quality, and great value. If you find another one of their options you like, you can buy it with confidence! I also left out quite a few brands some people may have been expecting, particularly Swiss offerings. For people not into watches, lower end Swiss watches is a minefield, so I left out things like tissot and Hamilton intentionally. Once again, watches are very personal. If you like your "insert watch here" keep rocking it and don't let anyone tell you differently. Sure the brand may not be popular amongst the watch crowd but we are a bunch of pretencious assholes anyways. I can keep writing these guides if anyone is interested, scaling in price. Or if you have any questions feel free to ask or inbox me. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 08:55 PM PDT So as ASSC (rightfully) gets shat on in this sub, I just want some opinions on the sole design itself. From what I gather the brand gets flamed for its repetitiveness with designs and previously for quality/price concerns. Regardless, I feel some pieces on their own deserve some attention. I personally don't care for the brand too much, but I just want some opinions on individual pieces, not the brand as a whole. That pink race car hoodie actually caught my eye and I've never cared for ASSC. [link] [comments]
Anyone know any facebook groups? Posted: 04 Jul 2017 12:47 AM PDT I know there are a few facebook discussion groups out there that you can join so you can know more about like japanese designers and stuff like that [link] [comments]
What are these marks on my new jeans caused by? Posted: 03 Jul 2017 11:50 PM PDT I had very recently bought a pair of jeans from Nordstrom, and it wasn't until after I got back that I noticed these marks on the back on both legs. One leg has more apparent markings than the other. Looking closely at it, the dye seems to be a brighter color or maybe even rubbed off a bit. What could have caused this and is this a reason to return the jeans? [link] [comments]
What hairstyles are you guys rocking for the summer? Posted: 03 Jul 2017 09:45 AM PDT I've been going without a sizeable haircut for about 2 years and I think it's high time I shave off my glorious old dude-mane in favor of something shorter. For reference, I've got kind of medium thickness, wavy hair. [link] [comments]
