BASIC CREWNECK/HOODIE THREAD

Posted: 05 Dec 2017 08:42 PM PST

Been using the searchbar for about an hour now. Ronin, Agora, and bigcartel stores that are just way too edgy keep popping up.

I think we should compile a mega thread here. Future searchbar users can be blessed with this post.

So where have you guys found dope shit. I'm thinking relatively minimal and <$60.

The issue with whitelisting.

Posted: 05 Dec 2017 10:44 AM PST

In my eyes the entire premise of whitelisting is to create a group of users that represent the r/streetwear community with their own high quality photos to capture their own personal style, this premise is meant to create a vision of diversity in the community. But with the current limitations to become whitelisted, the community is only holding itself back from diversification.

Lets talk about the WYDWT thread. I feel as if the WDYWT for a large amount of users is just a battleground where their outfits go unnoticed and disregarded. In my opinion one of these users would be /u/topper102, he has his own personal style which fits his personality extremely well and he pulls it off in an interesting way, but when he goes into the WDYWT thread and submits his fit, he still is unable to get the required 50+ karma to count towards his total of 500 needed. Toppers photos are good quality which capture his outfits in a good way which in my opinion would only aid in the diversification of r/streetwear. There are many other posters other than Topper that I feel like would benefit to the diversification of high quality photos with personal style in the community. These users only go disregarded due to the nature of the WDYWT thread and the mass amount of users which are not open to personal style and are close minded when it comes to people pushing the limits, I also feel as if part of this is bias caused by popularity of users on the sub.

Overall I feel as if there should be more diversification towards the whitelist system, I understand that the current whitelist system is in place to prevent the previous "WDYWT spam" on the front page, but in its current state the whitelisting system is only keeping r/streetwear from benefiting from the diversification and personal style that would only cause the sub to have more quality content.

Please add in your thoughts and critique to help make r/streetwear a more diverse fashion community, thank you.

Edit: Removed my bit on fit battles as a mod had corrected me on how the runner up receives the whitelist if an already whitelisted user wins first place for the month. My bit on WDYWT threads stands the same as well as my concerns for the community.

Fashion in College

Posted: 05 Dec 2017 10:55 AM PST

I don't know about anyone else, but at my college the number of people who put effort into how they dress is extremely low and most of the people who "care" wear joggers/roshes/adidas track pants. This leads me to think that streetwear and fashion and general is not given as much thought as this sub tends to think. Thoughts? Anyone else realize this?

How did your interest in Streetwear/Fashion start?

Posted: 05 Dec 2017 07:37 PM PST

Just curious to see how others started to take an interest in what they wear and the Streetwear/Fashion scene as a whole.

Personally, I've always listened to hip hop/rap and had a couple friends who were interested in general Streetwear or clothing before me, but it feels as though I've already caught up to them in my short time actually taking an interest in what I wear.

I know everyone can't stand their customer service, and the wait times. I've only ordered from them twice, and both times waited over a month for my gear. On my most recent order I never even received a tracking number, but needless to say I was very pumped today to receive my package with 4 free gifts(compensation for the long wait I'm assuming). FINAL THOUGHT: I believe it's worth the wait.

[Discussion] Streetwear/Hype-Clothing in Dubai

Posted: 04 Dec 2017 10:24 PM PST

I am going to be visiting Dubai this holiday season at the end of December and I was wondering if the people from Dubai are into Streetwear and "Hypebeast" clothing. As well, if anyone has any suggestions on shops, boutiques, etc. to visit, let me know!

Thanks!

Streetwear Youtubers - My take on some of them

Posted: 04 Dec 2017 12:41 PM PST

Within the past maybe few years or so we've seen a mad influx of streetwear/fashion youtubers. I'd like to talk about some of them and why I like/dislike some of them.

Whoisjacov/Jacob Wallace - I've been watching this guy for a couple years now, and I honestly really liked the content he puts out. A lot of it is DIY, discussion based videos, pick ups, outfit videos etc. His style is what stands out to me, it's a bit different compared to the rest of the streetwear youtubers you see on youtube. I like how he's not afraid to try different things, and his clothing brand is pretty dope in my opinion. I do think that his new collection is a bit over priced, so I might hold off on copping for a while. Personally, I think that his videos are too short, and as of lately he's lacking in variety. Like I haven't seen anything refreshing, or new that's come form him. That's my two cents anyways.

Fernando Rangel - I like Fernando, I do. The only thing is that he's way too closely associated with Jacob. The way he edits his videos, takes his IG pics, even his style sometimes, it's a little too similar to Jacob. They both even shit on jerry boys, one of them claims to have actually made up the term but I can't vouch for the validity of that statement. Some of Fernando's earlier videos were good, but honestly he recycles the same shit and it gets mad boring to watch. All he talks about are vintage tees, hanes beefy tees, and depop, and it get's a bit annoying... but hey man, do you.

Avery/GeardtowardsGear - A lot of you know about Avery, so I wont go into too much detail. I like Avery because he's on his own wave, I haven't really seen anyone quite like him. He's an actual fashion head, he knows what he likes and knows a lot about the fashion world in general. At least, that's what it seems to me. His style evolution is pretty cool

too, as I recall a couple years ago he was into hypebeast shit like Palace, Yeezy etc.

Harrison Nevel - Seems like a nice guy, although in his earlier videos he looked like a depressed suicidal jerry boy. I like Harrison because he has a variety of different videos he does. Like the celebrity fit challenges, pick ups, guess how much the fit is, you get the idea. His style isn't really any different from any other hypebeast on youtube, so his outfits can be pretty cringy if you really pay attention to what he's throwing on his body.

Sangiev - I like his style, it's a bit flamboyant... but I fuck with it. His youtube videos are cool, but they aren't my go to.

Gallucks - I use to watch his videos a lot back in the day. I kinda fell out of his channel, but I did like some of his outfit videos, pick ups videos and all that shit. Not sure about the content he's putting out now, I'll have to check it out soon.

Alex Zevallos - I actually really fuck with Alex. I like how opinionated he is, he's a pretty smart guy so he offers a lot of true and valid points in his discussion based videos. I don't get bored with his content because the topics that he discusses are actually really relevant. He's actually mad funny, so I get a good laugh out of his videos. Finn is cringe though, and I think he should drop that shit. I wish Alex would upload more, but oh well.

Locustandwildhoney - I am by no means a fan of FOG/Fear of God, but I do appreciate Paul's videos and what he does for the community. He covers a lot of shit from the brands releases, drops, and what not. I like his shopping videos, but they can be redundant at times. I don't like how he over saturates his love for MNML in almost every video of his youtube channel, that shit get's super annoying and I'm about over it at this point. I think he's interesting, not a huge fan of his style. It's not bad per say, but not exactly my cup of tea sometimes. TOOO MUCH FOG, CANT SEEE

Magnus Ronning - This dude is jokes. His videos are quality, he's witty, cringy, and aesthetic all at once. I fuck with him.

Jacob Keller - What can I say, he's the OG. I binged watched half of his videos in one night a couple years ago. Although he doesn't make videos pretty much at all anymore, it doesn't hurt to peep the old shit. I really fuck with his style as of lately, if you follow his Instagram you might think the same thing. Miss the guy.

I know I'm leaving out a ton of other people, but these are the guys I usually watch and have a formulated opinion on.
