Massive list of reputable TaoBao and AliExpress stores.

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 04:31 PM PST

Hey r/streetwear!

I noticed that services like TaoBao and AliExpress have a bad reputation on this sub for "allowing sellers" to sell replicas, when there are also reputable stores and brands that sell their own pieces on there. That's why I decided to make a spreadsheet listing some stores worth checking out.

The stores vary from basics to pretty expressive pieces and mid-end throughout high-end designers that look worth checking out. So the prices vary throughout. (TaoBao prices are in Chinese Yuan, and AliExpress prices are in US Dollars.)

If there are stores that I haven't listed but are worth mentioning in the spreadsheet, feel free to comment or PM me them so I can add them to it.

I hope you guys enjoy!

Edit: Keep in mind to check the sizing tables. Most of the stores on this list use Asian sizing, which is significantly smaller. An Asian XL (for example) will fit like an European M or L. But then there are some stores that use European sizing, so make sure to know the measurements you'd like the item to be before receiving a way too small piece.

[DISCUSSION] Best/Worst Experiences with Online Clothing Stores

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 06:24 PM PST

Doing some research on the matter, and I know the community here on r/streetwear has a lot to say about the "do's and (mostly) don'ts" of the places you guys choose to spend your money at (or not, which is equally important).

Please keep in mind that these questions/topics are aimed at the idea of online stores and purchases.

EDIT: I don't think I've been clear enough. I want to know what "elements" make up a good experience. Imagine your perfect online store is your "dream" girl"; what do you want to see in her?

~

How vital would it be to have a source for 100% genuine, new items from limited runs (i.e. Supreme, Nike, Palace, etc.) with prices matching or even below market price?

What do you look for in regards to user interface?

What do you find yourself saying or noticing about a good experience with a clothing store?

What are the worst things about purchasing clothes online? Aside from obviously not being able to try the garments on.

What do you find yourself (or peers) saying could be better about the online clothing experience?

What kind of budget do you have when it comes to second-hand/vintage/thrift items? What is a good price for sweatshirts? Outerwear? Pants? Shoes? Bags? etc.

How does it make you feel if the garments are guaranteed to be freshly cleaned and kept neat? Assume they have a "like new" appearance.

~

Responses to any and all of these questions and concepts would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM me to discuss anything pertaining the subject!

Thank you for your time.

[DISCUSSION] Vintage DESCENTE cyclewear - A case for the branding origins of OFF-WHITE

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 12:10 PM PST

Seeing as I haven't found any discussion across the internet linking what I think is an interesting resemblance, I thought I would post here and see what you all think.

A couple of weeks ago, I was thrifting and came across this shirt. Now I'm an avid cycler and this tickled my fancy for not only its beautiful design but for its' Japanese cycle-wear origins. I was also immediately struck by the similarity to what has now become synonymous, with the brand Off-White, that is the diagonal line motif and arrows most commonly seen across a range of Off-White products like this.

Given Off-white being in the news recently for trademarking those diagonal lines it was interesting to find them here, beside a logo of arrows so similar to its own. A peculiar coincidence. So I looked a little more and what I found was surprising. Japanese sportswear company, Descente, manufactured an array of cycling jerseys from the 1970s to early 80's that all included the same diagonal line motif across all their sleeves with of course their trademark arrow logo beside it. You can do your own research but this is an album I created of my own shirt and ebay listings for "vintage descente cycling". It's just interesting that before Off-white those diagonal lines were most certainly synonymous with Descente cycling jerseys. I feel its almost too similar for it to be mere coincidence so I'm curious to hear what yall think.

And honestly those cycling jerseys are cool as shit.

[DISCUSSION] Streetwear History: Willi Smith, Steet Couture Pioneer Would Have Been 70 Today

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:58 PM PST

Spare a moment today to learn about and remember Willi Smith. Smith won awards for both women's and men's fashions in 1983 and 1985 respectively, and was well on his way to building a fashion empire before being taken much too young at age 39. It's impossible to emphasize enough the impact Willi Wear had on street fashion. Though many of his designs are largely undocumented on the web, they can still be found at steal prices and certainly continue to inspire knowledgeable streetwear designers worldwide.

Part Two of Teddy Fresh's second drop.

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 05:14 PM PST

I posted about the first part of Teddy Fresh's 2nd drop two weeks ago, link

There was a lot of good conversation around the brand, and they just dropped part 2 of their 2nd drop.

https://teddyfresh.com/

The drop includes two sweatsuit combos and two tees. I really like the color blocked sweats, the colors mesh nicely together. Definitely see a lot of inspiration from Apathy here. The cut on the hoodie is well balanced, the coloring of the pocket rims, seems a little weird to me, but not too off-putting. The colorblocked sweatpants are also done well, don't really like the big embroidered patch though. The stripe sweats, are a hard miss for me, looks a lot like 90s workout gear. The bright highlighted colors pop too much, with the bland black background, but I can see the appeal, with plain shoes you could make a nice outfit. The two t-shirts are nice, but nothing special, I really like the dark blue with orangish yellow, and the rembroidery is cute.

So what do you guys think? They seem a bit on the more expensive side, $75 for the jackets and $65 for the sweatpants, still cheaper than Supreme, around Pacsun's prices.

[Discussion] Fly Shorts

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 10:42 PM PST

I prefer pants but in the summer can never find any shorts that are fly enough. Anybody have any go to's that they like to wear a lot in the summer time like denim or chino, anything non athletic.

"BOTTOMS The most important part of bottoms that people over look is THEY SHOULD SUIT YOUR BODY FIGURE. If you wear a size XXL and buy super slim pants your ass finna look like a lamp, and no one loves lamps but brick. Pants always too long? Never fit right with your sneakers? Pinrolling will change your life.

Joggers Lets start off with joggers

Anyhow Joggers are basically the most comfortable pants you'll ever wear. Definitely great pants if you're trying to let your kick game shine. There are all types of joggers whether you want chino, sweatpants, or even denim. If you're looking for a pair, definitely check out this guide.

Jeans Probably the most popular jeans out there, Levi's Levi's have every fit and every color you could want in a pair of jeans, look up on their website how all their fits work, pick one best tailored to your body shape, then go out and about like the majestic beast you are look sharp af."

This is from a previous post about the essentials guide to streetwear but mentions nothing about shorts!

[DISCUSSION] What is the current trend in Jeans?

Posted: 26 Feb 2018 06:52 PM PST

Personally, I'm really into the tapered leg slim fit jeans with high quality selvedge denim. Fear of god and Balmain make some very attractive options but are pretty damn expensive, but nothing beats how those fit on a skinny guy. Would love to hear what you guys think is the current trend in men's jeans and what some brands are that are great examples of the above.

So, in short, what's in right now or fashion forward in the Jeans world?

Japanese? Raw / Selvedge? Distressed? Washed?

I've been looking at Nudies, BLK, Naked and Famous but they don't have any distressed options beyond a small tear at the knee or something I want something a little bit more edgy, but I am open to hearing people discuss anything Jeans really. Certainly, few brands can compare to the designer look / feel of Balmain or Fear of God, but let's hear what you guys have!

[Discussion] Another PSA saying not to buy from IDestroyedTheYouth

Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:16 PM PST

Bought a black ski mask when it was on sale for like $9. After a few weeks I got annoyed and DMed him. A good week later he explained he was so sorry and he'd fix it.

About the day he replied, an "amazing sale" was going on, and a jacket that was normally $50 I think was only $15. Me being optimistic about the situation I was in, since he said he'd fix it, I was stupid and bought the windbreaker cause it was badass as fuck lol. It says shipping is 3-7 days and I'll get an email with the shipping number. It's been 2 weeks and nothing. I didn't spend money on it, as it was for my birthday, but still, what a waste of money it was for the friend that bought it for me.

I spent little money, so I don't care too much, but please don't buy from this guy. Even if they were just problems and he isn't one big scam, he's a shitty brand owner or whatever you'd call him; I see him replying to irrelevant comments on Instagram but never replying to my DMs.

Please don't waste all your money, even if the clothes are cool as hell lol

We been making lots of art! So we made a design and got it printed on a Champion hoodie, we wanna see if people fuck with the message before making the hoodies! so let us know (idk if this is the right place to post this but if there is a better subreddit hit me wit it!)
