[DISCUSSION] What are your favorite trousers?

Posted: 27 Mar 2018 04:09 PM PDT

I wanted to buy a pair of trousers, and I've heard many good things about these relaxed ankle pants from Uniqlo. However, I do not want the cropped style that is present in these pants. I'm a big fan of a fit that is slightly baggy and reaches my shoes. I was thinking that maybe a larger size on the Uniqlo pants could help the leg reach my shoes, however my legs are quite long and my waist is somewhat skinny so I don't know how well this would work out. What are all of your favorite trousers? Can anyone with the Uniqlo ankle pants weigh in and give your thoughts on the pants? A pair that I am heavily considering is a pair of chef pants as illustrated by Avery Ginsberg, probably just in a black color, however I was hoping for some input from all of you. Thanks.

[DISCUSSION] Closet too monochrome, how do I spice it up?

Posted: 27 Mar 2018 09:37 AM PDT

Hey all! Longtime lurker, and admirer of the cool ass clothes ya'll wear.

I'm running into a quarter life crisis in life with my closet. It consists of greys, blacks, and the occasional pastel pink or olive green. No patterns, no prints, nothing except solid colors. I enjoyed it for a time but as Spring/Summer comes along I can't layer single colors to make it look any interesting. Also, I've worn the same thing basically every day for the entirety of last Fall/Winter. (Looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/gc2PP)

Currently my casual, every day wardrobe consists of a couple solid color crew necks (navy, beige), a couple solid color crew tees (pastel pink, white, black, beige), black and light wash jeans, a couple solid color hoodies (olive, grey, black), and a couple basic flannels (red and black, grey and black). I own a few NMDs (solid olive, black, and white), and a pair of beige tubulars that I've worn every day since I bought them.

The closest thing I happen to like that's printed is really minimal stuff. Tiny stitched images are things I like but don't know where to buy (like this, but I'd also like to try and incorporate the occasional pattern (completely unsure as to what I'm looking for here). As far as actual graphic tees, I know I love music and film, but I can't really find tees with musical artists I like that don't look straight from Wal Mart in 2005 (like this). The brand of sneakers I like most is Adidas by far, mostly because I have a ugly wide foot and Adidas seems to be the most comfortable there. It'd be cool to find pops of color for my feet but I tend to just go with something like a triple white NMD or Ultraboost.

I wanna grow up into a cooler kid. What kind of advice would you give someone who doesn't love anything at Pac Sun and always ends up just grabbing another black crew neck when he goes shopping? Especially in the Tees department, for the warmer months.

Appreciate ya'll!

[DISCUSSION] finding low key brands on instagram

Posted: 27 Mar 2018 03:31 AM PDT

this is a re-post since the last one was deleted since i didn't select a "flair" :/

Since there is zero small brand discussion on this sub any more, and r/streetwearstartup is mostly just kids photoshopping things onto photoshop templates of folded gildan shirts, i've been finding it hard to find some of the smaller brands doing interesting things.

I know instagram is the place to go, but all that ever comes up on my explore page is hypebeast shit, gucci this, supreme that. There's lots out there but how do i find it? Are you guys using hashtags to find stuff? I found this one account that links to some low key brands @ownthinguk but haven't seen any others like this one really.

[Discussion] Requesting education on the brand, "(Be in the) Current Seen". Are they an actual brand from the 80s/90s, or is there something else at play here?

Posted: 26 Mar 2018 02:51 PM PDT

So my first run-in with this brand was when my sister picked up a jacket of theirs from goodwill. Their items are typically womens' jackets sporting poppy, neon colors that anyone would associate with 80s/90s fashion. Examples: 1, 2, 3, and 4. I've picked up that 2nd one at a goodwill and was pretty surprised to find that it was the same brand as my sister's jacket. Ever since then I've seeked their stuff out and gotten a handful more from online because I dig the aesthetic.

As far as first impressions go, they seem like a brand out of the 80s/90s that went defunct decades ago; Googling them only ever turns up listings on the secondhand market. Whether it's etsy, poshmark, grailed, or ebay, sellers usually claim items from this brand as being genuinely vintage. The signs point in that direction, but I've grown skeptical.

Every item I've seen from this brand looks practically new. Maybe the worst I've seen could have faced 5-10 years of wear; that kind of wear could have just as easily been after 1 year of being used as a beater, but 20-30? Even if they've spent most of their years in a closet or attic, I feel like a lot of these items would exhibit a bit more fading and general degradation.

Granted I'm not an expert in what an article of clothing should look like after chilling tucked away for a couple decades, it's just that the more I see from this enigmatic brand, the more skeptical I become. Was this an actual brand from back in the day? Maybe it's from overexposure and fixation ever since I grew curious, but the more I see of it, the more my perception of it morphs from something authentically vintage to something carefully formulated to emulate the look of that era.

By now my mind's starting to entertain the possibility that there is someone out there producing these faux-vintage items and flooding the secondhand market. I'm not saying that's what I 100% believe what's happening, but with every item from this brand checking so many boxes of what young adults these days want from the fashion of that era: neon colors, patterned/floral fabrics, embroidery, androgynous potential, etc., and the large majority of said items on the secondhand market not at all looking worse for 20-30 years wear, it's a possibility for me.

I guess what I'm looking for is someone with any sort of knowledge on the "Current Seen" to chime in. Whether it's someone who had it in their closet back in the day, or maybe even someone involved with it. This brand is shrouded in mystery and my curiosity is certainly fucking piqued. With so little information available on their history, even the smallest bit of education someone could drop here would be greatly appreciated.

[Discussion] Best Hoodie Design?!

Posted: 26 Mar 2018 11:14 PM PDT

Hoodies have been a staple in streetwear for a long time! What is the best designed hoodie right now? Who sets the benchmark in a sick hoodie, with design, look and make?

Curious to see what everyone vibes with. If you like that simple brand name look on a hoodie or you buy a hoodie because of the sick graphic on it? Maybe the hoodie has an acid wash?

Let's say you where to blow like $400 on any hoodie, what would be worth spending your money?

Does the hoodie have to feel heavy for it to be perceived as quality. Does the print have to mean something to you or can the colours look cool. What goes into your thought process when dropping racks on a worthy hoodie!? What brands are sick when it comes to this?

Do you go for a lighter hoodie in summer or does it not matter? What brand has the best hoodies out right now? What are some classics! Many factors go into a hoodie.

[DISCUSSION] Did Virgil Abloh do the visuals / clothing / marketing for SHM’s reunion set at Ultra Music Festival Sunday night?

Posted: 26 Mar 2018 12:49 PM PDT

I was at Ultra last night for the Swedish House Mafia's reunion set. Stickers popped up all over downtown on Friday night with various corporate logos (nike, adidas, Chanel, Starbucks, McDonalds, Apple, Burger King, American Airlines) in threes with sundays date in the Helvetica Bold font. There was also a large mural that popped up too. Virgil posted this on his Instagram. Ingrosso posted a picture of deconstructed sewn-on Nike logo with studs and the date in the Helvetica Bold font. Another was wearing a custom adidas jacket with three adidas tri-foil logos in the back. Before the set, for a half hour, the words "NO PHOTOS" in quotes in Helvetica Bold were displayed on the LEDs next to the stage and throughout the set, any words were posted in Helvetica Bold, some using the corporate logo motif. Finally, Virgil did do the custom outfits for Axwell/\Ingrosso at Coachella last year, so I wouldn't put it past them to use him as designer fit such an important event. He was also in Miami doing a couple DJ sets at events over the weekend.

All in all, if Virgil did have something to do with it, it was well-done. I thought it fit the aesthetic well and SHM's outfits were on point. Feel free to post more links or info. Big, big weekend for Virgil, I guess!
