[Discussion] How to add more color into my fits and evolve my style?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 08:37 PM PDT

Hey guys, with school coming up I've decided that it's time to change up my shitty style.

Last year I was sort of experimenting and just trying to find what I like, but I ended up wearing a lot of fits that I wasn't happy with. Just really basic stuff like any sweater, black skinny jeans, and old skools. I would wear that 5 times a week some weeks.

So I'm trying to switch things up and most importantly, I'm trying to add some bright colors into the fits I wear.

For example, I absolutely love fits like this and this where even just the color palette is super dope not counting the silhouette, etc.

I have maybe about $200-300 dollars for some new back to school clothes. Where do you think this would best be spent? I mostly have black clothes and really safe stuff. Any suggestions for where to look? Any pieces in particular that you think would fit the look I'm trying to go for?

[Discussion] Buying two of the same thing and scarcity syndrome

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 06:35 PM PDT

Hey guys just wondering if any of you have had the same problem as me, and if you have had any tips to fix it.

Sometimes, if I find a good deal on a shirt that I really like, especially if I would have bought it at full price, I feel the need to buy two of them. One to wear, and one to store in case I rip or stain the first one.

For instance, I just got a new adidas shirt that fits amazing, is high quality, and looks super clean. It's somewhat of a special edition so I don't see it being made again. My first reaction after getting a small stain on it (came off easily, fortunately) was to instantly order another one, since the website had them on sale for a great price.

Then I started overthinking it. "Do I get one in large, since I'll be building some muscle mass in the next few years, or stick with medium so that it will fit really snug and form fitting? What if I outgrow the medium? I think that I am insane, and suffering from a bit of scarcity syndrome.

At the same time, I'd love to wear this while playing sports, but I'd be too afraid to stain it to try. If I have one new in box, I'll have the peace of mind in knowing I have a fresh one ready to wear once it's completely trashed. Also, I could size up and if I gain some muscle mass, the medium will fit snug, and the large would fit baggy. Both looks for different occasions. Not sure what to do.

This applies to shoes especially, and I know I'm not the only one in this case (one to rock, one to stock, etc.)

It seems like a mental issue that I can overcome, but I don't know how. Any tips? What do you do when you fall in love with new clothing? I feel like I'm being obsessive, and soon there will be another shirt I really really like, and I won't care about a couple small stains on the adidas.

[Discussion] What low-key brands have you been supporting?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 03:16 PM PDT

I've been somewhat unimpressed/bored with a lot of my old favorite "low-key" streetwear brands lately, mostly due to the ever expected change in taste I have every few months or so. I've seen a lot of the same lately and I'm getting complacent. What small brands/designers have y'all been rocking lately?

[DISCUSSION] Is It Worth To Invest In Multiple Pairs Of Cropped Trousers

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 10:16 PM PDT

Hello guys, I have something in mind, which makes me so bifurcated.

I am relatively new to the cropped fashion trend, duo to my skepticism. However, once I tried a pair of cropped jeans and looked at the mirror how beautifully they emphasize my footwear I got in love with it.

However as every trend there is a certain time period in which it's popular, until the time comes and a garment becomes unpopular and thrown away in the closet for ever.

And here is what actually bothers me. Even though, I already have a few pairs of jeans, which are cropped, is there any point of investing more money into something, which soon can become outdated and everyone will forget about this fashion trend.

For example, jeans like slim fit will be long time popular imo. Isn't it better to invest in slim fit jeans or chinos and just use the method of roll up like the pinroll and rock em depending on how you like it. If you want to go out and have that cropped style, just roll up the jeans/chinos and go on. Let's say if you have some more formal work leave them as they are. I really can't get it why there are already cropped jeans when you can just roll em up?

[discussion] What are your favorite streetwear magazines?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 10:34 AM PDT

I am trying to find magazines that deal with street wear, for inspiration and knowledge. There are so many out there, large and small. What are you favorites? What do you recommend?

Some fashion magazines--I can't tell if they focus on street wear or not. Partly because I'm not sure what counts as street wear vs. couture sometimes. I suppose those two things can overlap. Part of the reason I ask is that if you've seen my previous posts, I want to get more closely involved with the industry. Cheers.

[Discussion] Spent this month thrifting intensely in NYC, here what Ive found.

Posted: 19 Aug 2018 02:51 PM PDT

Ive been thrifting in NYC off and on for most of the year as I recovered from spine surgery, but I decided to bust my ass this month and hit as many shops as I possibly could. Heres what I found. Im happy to offer advice/locations for any of this, since im leaving the city in a week and won't be at these shops at all. Hope you enjoy!

First Weeks Haul

This week convinced me to keep up my thrifting adventure. Id expected to be picking up more vintage stuff, but there was a lot of newer hyped stuff.

-Balenciaga Dad Hat (Afaik its legit, ive checked everything i can)

-Awake NY Hat

-032c Crewneck

-Nike Vapormax Plus

-APC x Carhartt Tee

-Brand New Kith Box Logo Tee

-Alexander Wang x Adidas Velour Polo

Second Weeks Haul

Probably my most profitable week in terms of quantity. Both sneakers will be pretty easy to sell. No massive finds, but a really solid week.

  • Nike Epic React

  • Air Max 95 OG

  • Supreme Oxford Button Up.

  • Public School NY Brand New Tee

  • Supreme Beanie

  • Nike ACG Techfleece Shorts

  • Valentino Rockstud Camo Shirt ($$$$$)

  • Fucking Awesome Hat

  • Polo Bear Hat

  • Noah NY Walt Whitman tee

Third Weeks Haul

I had a really good week for Japanese brands, and came away with both some healthy profits, and some things to keep for myself.

-Bianca Chandon Ô Crewneck

-Vans x Opening Ceremony Slip ons.

-Valentino Star Combat Boots

-Blue Blue Japan Short Sleeve Sweatshirt

-1990 Thelonious Monk Tee

-Takahiromiyashita the Soloist Tee

-Number (N)ine Tee

Fourth Weeks Haul

Ended my thrifting adventure with a bang. Two craziest finds of the summer with the Vetements shoes and the Morrissey tee. Idk who donated the shoes but they're worth a grand, and are my most valuable find to date. Morrissey tee was valued at around $500 by a vintage tee store near me.

  • Vans x North Face Old Skools (Missed these when they released, so extra happy to have them now and in my size)

  • Golf Le Fleur Converse.

  • 1991 Morrissey Tee,

  • T by Alexander Wang Woman's Sweat-shorts.

  • Burberry Brit Notes from the Wilderness Tee

  • Brand New Acne Studios Tee

  • Brand New Nike ACG Crewneck

  • Herringbone Wool APC Backpack. Perfect timing for school.

  • Vetements x Reebok Sock Runners. Idk who donated these but they're worth a grand. Most valuable find to date.

[Discussion] Why is r/streetwear and fashion in general viewed so negatively by the rest of reddit?

Posted: 19 Aug 2018 12:16 PM PDT

I feel like its almost a meme at this point in the rest of reddit to make fun of r/streetwear. People have this preconceived notion that this sub is all supreme hypebeasts and tech ninja outfits and the peole are pretentious rich teenagers with their parents credit cards and they make fun of it constantly when in reality it's not true at all. Like this sub gets so much undeserved and factually incorrect hate that ive even seen comments like 'wait that sub is real? I thought it was just a reddit meme' in response to other comments making fun of it.

Not only that but i feel like fashion in general gets such a bad wrap on reddit. People see high fashion runway clips or see people dressed differently then the masses and the first reaction is to say it looks like shit and call the fashion industry a 'big conspiracy' (ive seen multiple people call it a conspiracy). They make fashion seem like this stupid condescending thing for edgy teens and rich dumb rich people instead of a normal healthy interest some people have. Its like they dont understand it and cant fathom anyone wanting to wear anything else then hoodies and jeans so they automatically hate.

I also dont understand how people have no problem praising and accepting avant gard and modern/absurd art/artists yet they hate so much on the more 'out there' high fashion designers and runway pieces even though that also is just a form of art and fashion designers are extremely skilled artists. Its like once again they dont understand how art and peoples individuality can be expressed through clothing so they choose they hate.

Thoughts?

[Discussion] Norfolk streetwear

Posted: 19 Aug 2018 07:31 PM PDT

I just moved to the Norfolk area in Virginia and was wondering if anyone on the sub lives around here. If you do I was hoping to get some good stores to checkout and maybe meetup with some people here and take pictures because I have no one to take a picture of me lol. If anyone knows some good thrift stores around here let me know. I know that there's round two in Richmond and ima go there when I'm not busy but yeah thanks for the help.
