[DISCUSSION] Kyoto Village is a scam

Posted: 08 Nov 2018 11:17 AM PST

So I came across this ad in Facebook about a 75% off sale on all products because their "store" from the US is closing down. The items looks cool so my naive self bought an item from there (still hasn't arrived). As soon as I checked the tracking status (via tracking number), it showed that the item is from China. I rechecked the store's address and points to a building in US but no store front pic. That's when I realize how dumb I was.

I emailed Kyoto Village to refund me since they basically lied about having a US-based store that is closing down (still waiting for a reply) but I checked their return policy and it showed that they do not allow returns on sale products = dead end.

I saw a lot of people on Facebook interested in Kyoto Village but most of them does not know that the items are from China and it can be easily bought cheaper than the 75% off price by going to Alibaba or Taobao (Chinese equivalent to Ebay).

I just want to warn everyone not to buy from there unless you don't care about the quality of the clothes.

I don't mind if the quality isn't that good as long as it looks the same as advertised but the price is what annoys me. "used to be $100+, now only $40+!", when you can get it for $10-$20 dollars on those Chinese e-commerce sites.

I don't know why Facebook allows such ads...

Posted: 08 Nov 2018 08:15 PM PST

I'm creating some shirts for a new project and wanted to add some hemtags to the bottom. Do you need bigger hemtags for let's say.. 2XL shirts vs. a medium shirt? Or are they all the same?

[DISCUSSION] Getting Real About Price Points In Fashion and Income

Posted: 07 Nov 2018 09:48 PM PST

To start off, don't share your income if you don't want to, but for those who choose to, get as specific or not specific as you want to, I'm just trying to get a better picture here. From exact numbers for income and money spent on fashion to a rough percentage, please don't feel pressured.

So I was reading the Lyst index of best selling fashion brands, which off-white topped. One of the reasons listed for this was the "For All" collection, a collection made so that people who can't usually afford luxury clothing can buy Off-White. I found it weird that almost none of the articles had pricing for this collection. When found one that did, I saw $95 for a shirt and $170 for a hoodie.

This left me with even more questions. Those prices are higher than anything I would spend, but I don't have much disposable income right now. And at a point when I did, I wasn't spending that much money on clothes. But my problem is I don't really see a market for this collection at all. People who make more money can afford to spend 1k+ on the high end off-white pieces. But that's obviously a small section of the population. Some people who only make 2k a month might spend 1k on an off-white piece, but again, those are outliers.

In my head there are 3 main groups of streetwear purchasers: The big spender full designer guys, the thrifter who might buy a piece from grailed once in awhile and the mid-range hype beast brand guy. I personally haven't met anyone who doesn't roughly fall into one of these groups.

So how did the For All collection do so well? I can't think of any reason. In the era of people buying expensive items, posing with them on Instagram and returning them the next day, how is a $95 T-shirt viable?

So please help me get a better understanding of this situation. For those who cop often in this price range is it usually a spur of the moment thing or do you budget and pick your pieces carefully? What gives the shirt this sort of value to you? Is it an admiration for the style of your favorite celebrity? The graphics? The material? The brand image? Would you spend the same amount on an unknown brand if you enjoyed their products?

For those that don't, what price point would you consider "For All"? Is there a piece you would pay that price for that isn't off-white? What could someone add to that shirt to make you more comfortable with that price point?

TL:DR; What are your fashion spending habits like? In the categories of budgeting, frequency/amount of purchasing, and planning or impulse(saving for a piece vs. seeing an IG ad and purchasing).

[DISCUSSION] Streetwear YouTuber Advertising Fake Clothing

Posted: 07 Nov 2018 09:32 AM PST

Taliaxbro is an upcoming fashion/streetwear YouTuber, though her channel is relatively small for the platform (currently at 71,000 Subscribers) - I see her channel likely becoming much bigger in the future. I myself am a pretty big fan of Talia and her videos, but her recent video really rubs me the wrong way.

The video, titled ''Fall Faves 🍁🍂- PERFECTKICKZ PROMOTION'' promotes Talia's recent cops: a Givenchy Distressed Hoodie, and a pair of Yeezy 500s, both sent to her from perfectkickz.ru, with the rest of the video being run of the mill sponsored ''please use this store!'' content. I decided to check out the website, and red-flags start appearing VERY quickly. You are greeted with a (slightly broken home page advertising their website, ''Articles of Luxury'' (leading to a second site: ''DopestKickZ'' and their Instagram (a private account)..

Realistically, it's very much obvious that the site is fake, the general appearance is very much...off. Basically made up of your run of the mill fake site, with logos and dodgy graphics plastered everywhere, advertising Balenciaga Runners for less than $200.

I'm very much disappointed in Talia for taking this sponsorship, as anyone can tell from spending 30 Seconds checking out the brand that this is dodgy shit. It goes without saying to not use the site, as there is almost no chance of you getting your hands on anything.

(tl;dr: fashion/streetwear YouTuber advertises extremely obvious fake website in sponsorship deal for her channel)

Edit: Sent her a DM on Instagram, we have previous DMs so it's likely she'll see my message, will update if I get any sort of reply. https://imgur.com/a/lZMIJUT

[DISCUSSION] Dressing outside comfort zones

Posted: 07 Nov 2018 06:20 AM PST

I know this may not be so much of a discussion(although it can be) but it's just a problem that I've been facing and would like help with

So I have many inspo on how I'd like to dress and the styles that I like but generally...people are pretty closed up on it. From where I live(SG), I feel that people generally dress pretty conservatively yknow tshirt, flannel, skinny jeans. Nothing wrong with that, of course. It's a look that works and will always work but to me, I'm really obsessed with clothing and I'd love to dress differently.

For example, in the recent year I've switched over to the oversized look and I love it and I thought people would too but yknow that's what I hoped. I'm too skinny, oversized isn't nice. You look like you're homeless with that oversized clothing.

Bought an Adibreak Track pants(my first real baggy bottoms) and I've rly been messing with it and all I got from my friends were "what are you wearing?" and honestly if you were to tell me they're just jealous I don't think they are i mean they all dress well and all(maybe not all of them) and tbh i dont think ppl generally have time to be jealous over clothes lol

Even my girlfriend every piece of clothing i've showed her, she'll break it to me nicely i guess by saying its just not her style but hearing it for a year i've kinda gotten numb to it. the only place i really feel good is when i dress to go school where nobody i hang out with goes there (only a few) and nobody really judges me lol.

I composed a look where I throw an oversized guess tee over white button up with skinny black ripped jeans i thought it was dope but literally zero ppl shared my views. just got a bit bummed out. maybe i just dont look as good as i thought i would in those clothing and they were right

just wondering how do you guys dress outside of ur comfort zones? because i rly dig the fits over on here, but it'll probably be seen as a tryhard over where i am :/

I personally like the shoes, having copped the Gokus and Friezas. Im not the biggest fan of the Friezas but it goes well with some of my fits, but I love the Gokus, both the look and feel.
