[DISCUSSION] Why There's a Whitelist: "We Get it it's Too Emo For an Ohio Grocery Store"

Posted: 02 Jan 2019 12:18 PM PST

I want to preface this by saying I'm not a huge fan of how the whitelist being done. I always liked that fashion was easily accessible (once you understand some basic guidelines) even though a lot of the trends are set by high end brands. I get that it was to slow the hundreds of "look at my supreme shirt" hypebeast style posts but I think this stifles creativity more than anything.

But with that I feel like the community has done more to stifle creativity than a whitelist ever could. I see the same 'criticisms' on every post. Wearing black? "Too emo/school shootercore/matrix cosplayer". Oversized pants? "Too old/anime". A little avant garde? "Nobody would actually wear that out". Calling something weird feels like the ultimate memey cop out to me because every venue, city and country have their own street wear trends and obviously nobody is wearing some high tech wear fit to the grocery store.

We get it you don't like a trend but can we verbalize why instead of "it's bad"? I see people complain all the time about the sub not having a variety of styles and then shit on someone for being bit out there. Everyone wants to complain it's all "emo and anime fits" and no one wants to actually post some new style.

And while some of the blame does lie on having a whitelist I think the bigger problem is the communities vague toxicity to anything they don't like. Everyone races for the "most epic roast" which ends up being the same memey comments or they shit oncsomething juet to be contrarian. People like to say the sub used to be good while shitting up any discussion that would make the sub be like it was before.

Thoughts?

[DISCUSSION] How do I develop my own style?

Posted: 02 Jan 2019 11:23 PM PST

This might sound dumb, but uh here we go. I'm trying to figure out my own style, and I'm not really sure where to start. I saw some advice on another thread saying one shouldn't buy clothes, or base your closet, around a specific style, just because you liked it on a couple of other people. I also read that I should try to mainstream my style to something consistent, so that most of my closet can all fit together, in one way or the other. But I've also found myself liking more than just one genre of clothing..

So um anyway what should I actually do, then? Is there one way to mainstream my style to something unique? Or do I just kind explore until I find my thing? Any advice?

Side note- Idk rlly know what I'm doing so sorry if these are especially stupid questions

[Discussion] I got scammed by CopvsDrop

Posted: 02 Jan 2019 10:43 AM PST

Hi,I encountered a scam issue recently that I am seeking for help. I hope you could give me some suggestions. I sent some high value streetwear items to a consignment store in NYC named CopvsDrop. Since my inventories hasn't been sold for a long time, I went to the store few days ago and tried to get them back. Unfortunately when I reached the store, the staff told me that CopvsDrop has closed. Now the store has changed to a new name and they are no longer relevant to CopvsDrop. The staff asked me to contact CopvsDrop by email for my inventories issue. I sent hundreds of email to them but they never reply. I strongly assumed that I got scammed by them and I am so anxious that I cannot get my inventories back. Could you please give me some suggestions what can I do? Is there any laws or regulations that protects the seller when facing this issue? I have kept all the information and evidence regarding my inventories. Does anyone know how to contact the owner of CopvsDrop? I feel really depressed and helpless at the moment. I really appreciate your help. Thank you!!!

[Discussion] custom Jurassic Park hawaiian shirt?

Posted: 03 Jan 2019 03:30 AM PST

Does anyone on this subreddit do custom clothing requests? I'm talking cut and sew pieces? I've always wanted to rock a subtle but noticable Hawaiian shirt that referenced the first Jurassic Park film

Any idea on how I could get that made?

[ADVERT] Bright Royal Bogo Crewneck Giveaway!

Posted: 02 Jan 2019 03:29 PM PST

Hello, Me and my friend /u/Ereco are trying to start a company that would make the streetwear community a safer place. In short, it would give people trading items a safe platform to execute their trades, as one currently does not exist. (strictly trades, not a platform for buying and selling.) Have you ever wanted to trade your item for someone else's, but find that there is currently no safe way to do it? If so your survey results would be very useful to us! The survey should take no longer than 2 minutes. The winner will win a completely deadstock bright royal crewneck from this seasons most recent box logo drop! Duplicate survey results will be disqualified. The survey will be up for 5 days then it be will closed and the winner will be contacted via email to claim their prize! We wish you the best of luck and thank you for your honest feedback! (Yes this is the second post, we are just getting final entrants and data results before we draw for the winner. Please do not enter a second time if you already entered, because you will be disqualified.)

[DISCUSSION] How to find good thrift stores?

Posted: 02 Jan 2019 07:07 PM PST

When i lived at home a few years ago there were a few awesome thrift stores i would always stop by every month or so. I moved to uni 2 years ago and can't seem to find any good ones by me Could it be because back home is a more affluent area and the thrift shops by me and in more lower income areas? If so how do i find better ones
