How to improve my style as a teen with a limited budget?

Posted: 28 Dec 2017 02:38 PM PST

Hello everybody! I am a high school student from Wisconsin looking to improve my style in 2018 and beyond. I am able to fund a relatively nice closet of clothing, as I have a job, but my parents also buy me clothes now and then as well. First off, I am 6'3" and like 145 lbs, so extremely thin for my height and age. My style currently consists of lots of clothing from American Eagle. I have many different AE hoodies, tees, khaki joggers, chinos, and a pair of dark wash and a pair of black AE jeans. I also recently picked up an olive green bomber from AE and I love it! It's my new favorite piece. I am thinking of going to my local H&M and trying out some of their stuff as well, as they are a little more affordable. I like the whole aesthetic of a hoodie and joggers/jeans, so I'd like to stay, at least for winter, in that same realm. In summer, I dress like many high school teens; a tee and jeans/khaki shorts. I am a little more willing to budge on my summer style. For shoes, I have a couple pairs of Adidas NMDs (red r2s, white Japan r1s, "white zebra" r1s) as well as a pair of Ultra Boost ATR Mids (Oreo 2.0 LTD). What are your guys' opinions on Chuck Taylor High Tops/Vans Sk8 Hi's? Those are the two shoes that I am currently eyeing that could improve my style a bit. Please feel free to offer any suggestions/tips for me. I look forward to hearing your feedback!

Appeal for stone island flair

Posted: 28 Dec 2017 06:49 AM PST

Hailed as master class by grailed, Stone Island has established itself as an iconic brand amongst streetwear enthusiasts as well as the conscious consumer trying to stay cozy. Started in 1982, far before "techwear" was even coined a term, Stone Island pushed simple, military-esque garments to the next level, focusing not on quantity but quality, rarely seen in low-end fashion industry. Despite starting 35 years ago, Stone Island continues to strive, if not pushes harder, for improvements in fabric technology, fabric cuts, and fabric design.

Though the idea of "functional" pieces in fashion over "aesthetic" pieces in fashion was hardly thought of when this brand was conceived, Carlo Rivetti not only designed and pursued this project, but teamed up with none other than the iconic C.P. company to create Stone Island. The company's come up can be argued to be much rougher and harder than other companies, serving up high end price points for not very flashy clothes. However, their humble, modest approach to fashion in turn led to famous rappers and models rocking their jackets, shirts, and jeans, in turn catching the public's eye. A small, ahead of its time brand that fought to stay relevant but also lowkey, and be able to make it this far, is anything but iconic of streetwear.

Ever since then, this minimalist, industrial, tech centered brand became iconic in not just Italy but globally. If anything, Stone Island has pushed its boundaries even more than before. Seen in their recent shadow project collab with ACRNYM, they accentuated what they already do best, providing the best cuts in fabric, best designs in fabric, as well as best technology in fabric. Their color changing fabric tech, which still seems surreal today, is but a thing of the past for this cutting edge brand.

Hailed as master class, Stone Island sees itself standing next to Margielas and Owens, but far from similar in style. And yet, it manages to excel at what it does, also distinguishing itself from similar tech styles like ACW, WTAPS, ARC, etc.

On behalf of all Stone Island loyalists, tech wear fanatics, and all street wear enthusiasts, I humbly request the green and yellow compass be added to flair options.

/r/Streetwear 2017 Award Ceremony

Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:16 AM PST

Welcome to the /r/Streetwear 2017 Fit Awards

Throughout the year, the whitelisted users of the sub post interesting and stylish fits so we thought why not celebrate these fits. Last week users had the chance to vote for their favourite fits.

The award for the Best Male Fit Overall goes to: /u/SirGrapes for this fit featuring Y-3 Stan Smith Zips.

The award for the Best Female Fit Overall goes to: /u/bbbunny___ for her fit showing off her MM6 margiela front zips and the Junya watanabe ss03

The award for the Best Vintage fit goes to: /u/4_Fox_Sake with their fit featuring a polo sport windbreak and the classic Nike 97's.

The award for the Best Techwear fit goes to: /u/Dezember_Zwolf for their fit which makes all the other subs complain about /r/streetwear for 'not having real streetwear' and 'its the same techwear fit all the time'.

The award for the Best use of Colour goes to (no surprise really): /u/ThatCommanderShepard for their fit incorporating layering, some white Rick Ramones and his trademark weird pose set

Now, this award will go to two different non-whitelisted users. These two winners will both receive the WDYWT Approved title. The two winners are: /u/bmoooh and /u/gyr4d0s for their fits shown here: bmooh and gyr4d0s

Congratulations to those who won this year. You will all receive a flair winning in your respective categories and hopefully we can look forward to seeing more fits in 2018

Is Supreme's significance dead?

Posted: 28 Dec 2017 04:00 AM PST

I got hip on Supreme back in 2011 when I was in the eigth grade and couldn't even afford it, let alone find where to get it. I found it because of listening to Odd Future and watching skate videos, which is the roots of the brand as we all should know and understand. Everyone, just as it still is today mostly, was wearing trendy low-quality mall clothes, and I wanted no part of it. I liked Supreme because the aesthetic was simple but not too minimalistic, and just cool and not really the status quo. But within the past 10 years or less, the way that Supreme operates and is consumed has slowly dwindled down to nothing more than a flex for celebrities and hypebeasts. Who would have ever thought a decade ago that a brand worn by skaters and underground music artists, plus their fans, would grow into a $1 billion dollar company that sells out in less than 60 seconds online, drops $44 tees that resale for hundreds, causes a total shitstorm for stamping their name on the most random things like the almight Supreme brick, makes items that have virtually nothing to do with the brand simply because it will most definitely be hyped and sell well such as the boxing jacket (worn by a bunch fat 17 year old hypebeasts that have never so much as raised a fist), collabed with Louis Vuitton aka the biggest fashion label on earth, or is vehemently worn by the likes of (and may Allah forgive me for uttering this name) Odell Beckham Jr., drill rappers, and anyone else you wouldn't expect to see in it back then? People don't even care about the aesthetic anymore, it's all about the brand name. And imo, it is no different than how people hype up any other higher quality brands just for the name, like Tommy Hilfiger or Air Jordan. All the artistic thought that goes into the designs, even in their glory, is outshadowed by the stature of the brand name stitched next to it. Kids that have never even seen Scarface or Akira in their life came out the store with everything they could afford to buy, just to take an Instagram picture or resell it on Grailed. It's become such a disposable brand it's sad really. I feel, in my opinon, that the significance of Supreme is totally dead at this point. It has been ruthlessly overwhelmed by its own hype. The few grails I have are old, like the polka dot reverse bogo hoodie or the desert camo 5 panel hat, and I have not much interest anymore. What are your thoughts?

Belts in streetwear?

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 05:14 PM PST

Whats up my groovy dudes and dudets,

So I recently went through some of the Golf Wang merch online and saw the blue and flame belt that is for sale. It looks pretty interesting but it got me thinking about how belts play into streetwear. Is it as simple as black and brown belts, supreme stuff, off white belts, etc...

How does a belt play a part in your outfits? if at all? Id love to see some discussion as I feel this isnt talked about a whole lot, but keeping your pants on seems pretty important.

clothing samples? how do people get them and what is the purpose?

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:58 PM PST

So I've seen for a while now people will obtain samples of yeezy's or some other streetwear clothing but my two questions are: how do people get them assuming it's not a friends and family thing like pharrell's or yeezy's and who are they intended for, really? I know only a limited number gets produced but is it just for people who work for the company to wear and see if it checks out? I really have no idea

Stuck In a Fashion "Rut"

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 09:06 AM PST

I'm sure a lot of people on this sub have experienced a similar feeling. It feels like there are so little pieces of clothing that I see and I instantly want. I often find myself in outfits that are out there or following an aesthetic but I am not overly happy with it. Aside from looking at inspo albums what have some of you done to get more motivated for finding new looks.

[REVIEW] AN-A-CHRONISM Sweatshirts Review

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 10:02 AM PST

ALBUM

Some time ago /u/4_Fox_Sake posted his collection of five 1 of 1 customized sweatshirts. I bought 2 of them and wanted to share my thoughts on them.

Both vintage sweatshirts are turned inside out on one side. He printed and made little embroideries on them as well.

The Maroon Sweatshirt has a «Void this World Vision» printed on the chest area. On the neck there is a little «Not Uniform» embroidery. The garment got cropped pretty hard but it's just the right length for my body. Overall the quality from the customization is great.

The Navy Sweatshirt got a print on the back which I guess was on the garment from the beginning. It has a mock neck with a «Void of Vision» print all over it. On the side of the Sweatshirt there is a «Void of Vision» print aswell. On the sleeve there is a little «1 of 1» embroidery. The garment is cropped and almost a little too short for my taste.

The sweatshirts are easily in my top 3 sweatshirts which I own. They kinda remind me of this Undercover piece.

I can only recommend /u/4_Fox_Sake's pieces. He makes great products and ships pretty fast. The tags from him were pretty cool aswell. I'd say the price of 100£ for such sweatshirts is pretty good.

I made some on body pictures, sorry for the trashy mirror pics.
