differences in materials between high and low end

Posted: 26 Dec 2017 11:10 PM PST

I was browsing the farfetch sale and saw this Alexander McQueen 100% wool jumper for $409 aud on sale. However, I have been at uniqlo and can find 100% wool jumpers in a similar cable knit style for around $50 or slightly more like $70 if it's a collaboration like uniqlo x JW Anderson.

https://www.farfetch.com/au/shopping/men/mcq-alexander-mcqueen-striped-cable-jumper-item-12201846.aspx?storeid=10267&from=listing&tglmdl=1

Farefetch states it's only 100% wool and not another type like merino or cashmere so what am I missing here? Is name brand making up all the difference, cut/fit? J.W Anderson is also a famous designer but his uniqlo pieces come right down in price with only a small markup because of his designs and name.

How much is "cheap", "expensive", or "too much" ?

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 03:20 AM PST

Okay so for starters, I'm 19 years old and currently living with mother bc I had to move back from another city, and I'm working a job for Victoria's Secret making $14.52/hr, 10 hour shifts, 4 days+2 potential overtime, and my checks usually average $1,200-1,600 after taxes. I would say I am on a pretty good budget with certain bills and fees I pay to live with my mom + my own priorities that take a decent chunk out, but obviously being that I am on this subreddit I have quite a thing for buying lots of clothes and shoes....and I have a very expensive taste.

Now that I made that known (and my point is that I would like everyone who reads this and/or responds to think about the same thing for yourselves), I recently bought a lot of stuff and one item was the Gosha Rubchinskiy x Dover Street Market tshirt from DSMNY, and it cost $75.00, plus tax and shipping. Probably the most expensive tee I have ever bought at this point, but it wasn't much of a conscious effort. I don't really pay attention to cost unless it's something like a tshirt over $100 or shoes over $250. I would not say that this tee was cheap by any means, but it surely is compared to retail from many other nice streetwear brands. I would say, clearly, this was expensive, but not too much at all.

In your opinions, what prices [for say, tshirts, jeans, hoodie, sneakers, etc.] do you consider to be "cheap", "expensive", or simply "too much" ?

Guide: authentication as quick as possible - Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Blue Tint

Posted: 25 Dec 2017 02:35 PM PST

Hi all,

Hope ya'll havin' a nice Christmas. @chddaniel here with how to authenticate Blue Tints as quick as possible.

Two things I'd go for:

  • Size Tag

Size tags never lie, at least for the moment. Here's the comparison pic and below's the map:

1 – "M" and "A" are almost touching on the authentic size tag, while on fakes they're clearly spaced out.

2 – Notice the spacing between the lines and the text. "JP" is almost touching on the fake tag, unlike the authentic tag. Font is also different, being a little bit bolder on fakes (look at "FR").

3 – This row of digits is touching the line on fakes, unlike the retails.

4 – Different spacing between "L" and "U" in "CLU". Also, the bottom line of "L" is fatter on fakes.

5 – "i" in "adidas" is touching both "d" letters, unlike the fakes where it only touches the rightmost "d".

6 – ® is illegible on fakes and is also touching "adidas". On authentic size tags, there's some spacing these two.

7 – Although this text may vary, "3" and "N" are touching on the authentic size tag.

8 -This code should match the one on the box (pictured) Look out for the numeric code, as EAN is written on this label but you could also have UPC there instead.

9 – "MALE/M LE" is bolder on the replica size tag. As a consequence, the slash is touching both letters "E" and "M" on the fakes.

10 – If you would be to extend the slash, it would hit the text below in different places. Moreover, a pedantic thing I noticed but worth writing about is the different spacing between "0" and "9" on the two size tags.

11 – "A" inner space is overly-filled on the unauthentic size tag.

12 – Different spacing – on fakes, "I" is slightly further from "H"

13 – "C" in "CHINA" is thicker on the fake size tag

  • Second stripe

The fakes are missing those grey vertical marks on the second stripe - pointed out here and also a close-up. Some fakes have that but they're too faint.

Buy safely and Merry Christmas,

Ch Daniel

[Discussion] Hatting insted of helping...

Posted: 25 Dec 2017 10:18 AM PST

I've been lurking for about a year now and have done a few posts and I think this sub is amazing... bringing together people with a passion (or interest) for clothing and letting people get feedback and help, but only one of these actually happens. One thing I see so much is people posting stupid comments or just shitting on people for basically no reason. i mean I understand if someone doesn't like a fit or even if the fit is off, they have the right to express their opinion. But in reality so many people just blast either posts that are done by people who just need constructive criticism/ help but just get blasted with stupidity and hate.

Keep in mind it happens more seldom that before I feel but I just thought I would make a post on this. Also keep in mind this is my own personal opinion and what I look at it as.
