[DISCUSSION] What are your favorite (relatively) inexpensive brands that deserve more attention?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 02:50 PM PST

I've been absolutely pouring through a whole lot of new streetwear brands recently, and have really enjoyed a lot of what I have found. I realized that there are so many brands that have an immense amount of character, style and often quality for how much you're paying. A lot of the stuff I've seen on the smaller end of brand sizes has this interesting taste of individuality and personal touch, as well as a unique type of passion that seems to only come out of working on a project yourself while you dream of growing into a big company. Some of my favorite finds are Get Some Sleep, Resurgence, Cease and Desist, Bad Neighbors and Nick Holiday's brand. I'm loving the unique flavor of these more independent projects, with some having such unique concepts like the ones explored by brands like The MSTRPLAN, ROKIT and thisisneverthat. What are some of your favorites/why should people care? I'm broke, so please lean towards the inexpensive, however i'm interested in anything you've got.

What happened to Alife? [DISCUSSION]

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 01:57 AM PST

Alife use to be one of my favorite brands back in the day. In fact i probably was more invested into it than supreme back in 2013/2014. Prices were awesome and their NYC store was my favorite store i have visited at the time in regards to streetwear. However now every time i come back and check their shop their prices are outrageous for what they're putting out, and they seem to just be trying to follow Supreme's footsteps in a shittier fashion. I just went to their site and they have an Alife CINDER BLOCK for sale like cmon bruh. Haven't kept my eye on them in a while but do people still fuck with them? are they irrelevant now? it's upsetting because i really use to love them and now they just seem to be putting in minimal effort with high prices

[Discussion] 2018 Streetwear/Sneaker Trend Preditions?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 09:12 PM PST

Let us know your 2018 streetwear/sneaker predictions trends? Is it techwear? Is the dad shoe trend going to die out? Let us know your thoughts? Let's get ahead of the game, I'm just curious of what you think will go trending even though it's almost imposssible to tell. Like doubt people would've guessed the dad sneaker but look how that ended up! The Fear of God look seems to have died down a bit, I don't know if this has something with Bieber not being so much in the headlines now days although I feel Zipper and heavily dissressed denim has lost its flair. Personally I think the track denim is really in at the moment, I've just bought some recently and I think the colour block is super nice with heaps of different fits Also how y'all have found 2018 so far? What trends are you giving a go?

[DISCUSSION] Does VLONE rip designs from other designers?

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 02:31 AM PST

I was Looking at some VLONE on grailed and I couldn't help but notice the similarity between their LOVE/LONE design and a design on it that read LOSER/LOVER

VLONE

IT

possible rip? What do you guys think? Looks a little too similar to chalk it up to coincidence, It looks like this isn't the first time VLONE has been suspected of stealing designs from other Designers, Like when In 2006, Takahiro Miyashita's previous label Number (N)ine designed a t-shirt with a V on the back that has several similarities with the VLONE logo that A$AP Bari "created". Really don't know how to feel about this because I love VLONE as brand but it just seems a little scummy if they can't make up any of their own designs for anything.

VLONE

(N)ine

i should credit the dude i took the last paragraph from so here

should add in I only took the other dudes paragraph because the minimum word requirement is 150 and I don't think I can expand on the same idea a bunch.

[Discussion] Can someone explain the hype around Off White?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 10:06 AM PST

So I did some research and looked up Virgil and how he made his own clothing company which went from Pyrex to Off white. But, I can't really identify anything that would justify the prices on his items. Like the nike x off white collab is the main topic seemingly over at r/sneakers but, from what I've seen, they just look like they've been given paragraphs on the side and new shoestrings. Now, that's of course me, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and able to spend their money on whatever they'd like to. I like designer clothes and sneakers, etc. But, I just wanted to try and understand better.

PICS FOR YOU CUZ I KNOW YOU LIKE THEM

I think this community might enjoy it - hopefully it will help people learn how to authenticate for themselves or even for others.

The app is only on iOS for the moment, 100% free - part of a bigger movement aiming to prevent people from getting scammed. Everyone should have the right to learn how to authenticate and there was no place that'd teach you that properly

[DISCUSSION] An iPhone App I Made to Browse Streetwear eBay Listings

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 08:11 PM PST

I made an iPhone app for searching & browsing eBay for men's clothing so you can drip in Rick without dropping a couple month's rent. The app is designed specifically for men's clothing so it gives better search results and is a better overall experience than the eBay app's one-interface-for-every-single-category approach. If you'd like to try it out, it's available now as a private beta through Apple's Test Flight service here:

https://fireappbetasignup.azurewebsites.net/

When you sign up, you'll get an email with instructions on how to install. If other people like this and use it, I'd like to add more features and release it to the public. I'm already planning on adding size & price filtering as well as more categories. I'd love to know what other guys think and how it could be improved.

[Discussion] My top 5 thrift finds of the past weeks!

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 07:02 AM PST

1 Apolis USMC Jacket $17.99

Picked this up a bit over a week ago at goodwill. This is an excellent jacket that would have lasted me through a couple of winters. Came with a fully removable wool liner that could be worn as a cardigan. Unfortunately it was a tad bit to small and I ended up flipping it for around $200. Had it been a M I certainly would have kept it. Would absolutely recommend this.

2 Helmut Lang Sample Cotton Pants $7.49

Really don't know much about these pants even after doing a fair bit of research. They fit me well on the waist, but could not accommodate my short ass legs. I swear you need to be at least 6'2" to wear most designer stuff. Im not really sure what I will do with these. If anyone has any info on them I would really appreciate it!

3 Churches Consul Dress Shoes $22.99

Picked these up at my local salvation army. Really nice shoes, and in excellent condition for donated goods. but I don't really have any reason to wear them. Once I get a real job they should come in handy. I posted them on Grailed for what I would like to part with them for and ill sit and wait. Don't really know a ton about dress shoes, but these will defiantly have me covered in the future.

4 Comme Des Garçons Homme Plus Vent Shirt $20.99

The first time I looked at this I assumed that it was horribly ripped and not worth much. My stupid ass was about to leave the store when i realized that it was done on purpose. Theres and even bigger vent running across the back that shows the tartan print a bit more. Unfortunately a japan S won't fit me, so im looking to flip this at some point. Maybe ill give it to a friend. Great find though!.

5 Rick Owens Field Coat Style Jacket $49.99

Really still in shock at this one. Picked this up at Beacons Closet on 13th (I would highly recommend this store to anyone visiting or living in NYC). Its more of a consignment store, but things are priced to sell fast especially if they are not in pristine condition. It was a tad more than I normally pay for used clothes, but I couldn't pass it up. This is coat has a lovely cut and a nice material, its very thin + light wool. 70% wool 30% Cashmere. I really want to keep it for myself, but I want to know more about it before I make that choice. If its from an old season it might be worth more than Im wiling to walk around in. I also would need to get it altered a bit and repair the lining, and don't want to do that if I don't know how much its worth. Ill be eternally grateful to anyone who could ID it! Here are more pics

Hope you enjoyed this as much as the last one. Ill try to post another soon if the thrift keeps pulling through!
