What is TOO much distressing? [DISCUSSION]

Posted: 22 Mar 2018 06:51 PM PDT

I have this denim jacket that I am going to distress tomorrow. I have had distressed jeans before, but this will be my first distressed/ripped up jacket.

With that said, is it TOO much to wear a distressed jacket with distressed pants? I'm just curious to hear some opinions about wearing more than one distressed articles of clothing at once.

My two cents: I feel like it might be a little much. I'm definitely going to try the distressed combination out once or twice to really get an opinion on it before I just write it off. Not that standing out is a bad thing, but for me being a white kid in the suburbs, a part of me thinks that rips everywhere might be a bit much. I guess it also depends on the severity of said distressing. Wearing jeans and a jacket with crazy distressing might look like you just escaped a tiger attack....which...now that I say it, sounds like kind of a cool vibe to be putting out...

anyway, let me know what your opinions are!

[Discussion] How much does your style change between seasons?

Posted: 22 Mar 2018 07:34 AM PDT

I'm still trying to find my own personal style, and I've found I've gone through loads of different looks the last couple of months. One day I'm into button up shirts and slim fit jeans, the next graphic tees, some skinny cargo pants and sneakers. I don't see this as a problem, as I'm enjoying having loads of looks and experimenting with stuff. So, my question is, how much does everyone change their own style between the different seasons? Do you keep within the same category of clothes (skate, techwear, minimalism), but just change up the colour scheme? Or do you completely switch and embrace a new style come Spring/Summer?

[DISCUSSION] Who do you guys think are cool, lesser know influencers that you follow on social media?

Posted: 22 Mar 2018 06:18 AM PDT

I'm gathering a list for an internship project of influencers who have a decently large following (few thousand of more) on all major social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, the works) and thought that since is such a diverse and cool group, you guys would know some cool people that don't have millions of followers. These people could be an influence for a lot of different things, such as fashion, music, lifestyle, culture, basically anything that you guys think is dope. I'm gonna be at work all day today and have to put my phone in a locker, so if you guys have any questions I'll be sure to answer them once I can! Thanks in advance!

[Discussion] Australia's Streetwear situation sucks. (Compared to US, UK, Japan, etc.)

Posted: 21 Mar 2018 08:28 AM PDT

This is basically just a rant on how expensive it is either to buy from overseas (because of the shipping fees and how fucking long it takes to get here unless you pay an extra 50 to express ship it) or its just generally expensive buying clothes here unless you go to a uniqlo or H&M (which lets be honest it's just the basics).

Checking online for solid Aussie streetwear brands is impossible, (indie or not) i can't find anything that doesn't burn a hole in my wallet.

I also refuse to shop at Culture Kings because of it just being the most pretentious place to shop, full of 13 yo buying Stussy and Carre and shit with daddy's credit card. (I have no problem with those brands tbh but it's affiliated with eshays).

Can anyone show me some redeeming qualities of Streetwear here in Australia or am i forever stuck with shit all.

[Discussion] Ever since Kanye has worn nothing but sweats, this sub has been lost

Posted: 22 Mar 2018 01:47 AM PDT

Let's be honest: many of us gained in interest in streetwear because of Kanye, Tyler, or A$AP Rocky. Ever since Kanye has started wearing nothing but sweats, Tyler has been out of the spotlight for abit, and Rocky shifted to full designer wear, this sub has been lost. Kanye used to set the trends and let us know what would be cool, or gave us a blue print on what to wear (moto jeans anyone?) but since the last couple of years we have had zero guidance on what's currently popular other than what other celebrities wear, and even then we reject what they wear and tend to pull off some avant- garde style. (Change my mind)

[DISCUSSION] hype(beasts)

Posted: 22 Mar 2018 01:48 AM PDT

want this shoe? can't have it. want this hoodie? can't have that either. want this new watch? sure. nah, psych!

i grew up in the 90's and 2000's and never saw such a level of hype around things as i've seen the past few years. and it only seems to be getting worse. i'm talking hype around consumer goods like nike/jordan/adidas shoes, supreme clothes, rolex watches, etc.

now of course it's all stuff i can (and do) live without, but there've been times where i've tried to buy something and have either had to pay several times what an item is worth or have had to get on long lists. it just becomes a very frustrating process that i, frankly, want nothing to do with anymore. even if you've got your hard-earned money in-hand and ready to go, you still most likely won't get what you want. crazy.

i'm aware of the whole 'hypebeast' generation and the slang developed exclusively for it, dedicated to consumerism, and am genuinely blown away by it. i don't understand. have people dumbed down so much?

i of course understand the lure of buying these 'hyped' things, and that is to either a) be seen sporting the latest and greatest or b) to resell and make fast cash. okay, and then there's also the few people who genuinely just want to enjoy certain items, irrespective of the above two reasons- that's the camp i fall into. i couldn't care less to be trendy and "in-season" or whatever and i also couldn't care less about flipping the items to make a quick buck- i just want to enjoy them.

i think it's so ridiculous that people buy this junk at resale prices. buying at retail prices you're already grossly overpaying over the intrinsic value of the item because of the brand recognition/hype, and to pay more still over retail just to have it is absolutely ridiculous and maintains just how true "more money than sense" holds for a lot of people. it's no secret nike shoes boast an insane markup... from costing them no more than a couple bucks to make in china (with subpar materials) to us paying $100-200+ by the time they reach us and then to pay $500-2000+ on the resell market... i mean, let that just sink in... is it really worth that much to be in vogue for a minute?

i realize the vast majority of 'hypebeasts' (cringe) are in their teens or early 20's and that the money could be lucrative or they want to be in-style, but in that case i don't understand why the manufacturers don't simply up their production numbers instead of making people suffer. a lot of times people will line up for a drop, buying several pairs and the very next time the market is over-saturated with the item, causing prices to drop significantly, so you're back to square one with an anchor...

i just don't understand what's happened over the past few years that society has come to this point of hyper-consumerism. on 'drop days' people are frothing at the mouth like hyenas waiting to get the latest shoe, t-shirt, hoodie, bag, whatever... i don't ever recall it being like this before.

now wanna' hear a first world problem if there ever was one? today rolex revealed some new models and within ten (yes, 10) minutes of my local dealer opening the list was already so long they had to close it. within a few minutes it reached a five year length at $10k per watch. insane.

[discussion] ASSC Customer Service

Posted: 22 Mar 2018 12:57 AM PDT

Okay, first off I have been a huge fan of how ASSC marketed their label and how "organic" they made their company appear.

Finally I get an online drop right on time and order myself $200+ of gear. This was not for me, but actually for my Dad who loves for me to get him trendy treats.

Anyway, I ordered that in October in hopes that I can give this as a xmas present. However, I just got my shipping label made on Feb.15 anddd my order still hasn't even reached the post office in which it is supposed to be shipped from.

It has been 30 days so I will be filing a "did not receive order" through my bank.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

edit: added more deets
