[DISCUSSION] Recent Trends

Posted: 03 Jun 2018 10:58 PM PDT

Do you think recent streetwear trends that see more traditionally high-fashion brands targeting more of the streetwear demographic is a long term change? Recently it seems more and more people are rocking stuff like Off-White, SLP, Gucci, and more in sort of casual outfits. I have always been a person that stays away from buying "basics" (I know Virgils whole thing with Off-White was to popularize hoodies and t-shirts into more luxury markets) in high end luxury brands. Prefer to spend at least 500-600$ on something like a coat or jacket or something that is gonna be long term. I personally see this not being as much of a thing. You see more and more small brands pop up that offer minimal and high end looking stuff at pretty affordable prices. But then again, there is a certain satisfaction to wearing expensive stuff. Curious as to what other people think.

[ADVERT] Win a 50€ MrPorter gift card by participating in my survey.

Posted: 03 Jun 2018 04:14 AM PDT

I'm a Business&Psychology student from Germany conducting research on the problem of accessibility in streetwear. With prices high and quantities limited I am exploring collaborative consumption as a means to allow streetwear enthusiasts easier access to coveted items. Since you seem to be interested in fashion I would ask you to to answer the questions in the survey I created. Your help would mean a great deal to me since this is for my bachelors thesis. Hence I'm raffling off a 50€ MrPorter gift card among all participants. The survey should only take 3 minutes and your responses are anonymous. However you can enter your email if you want to participate in the raffle.

[Discussion] Inspiration

Posted: 03 Jun 2018 04:01 PM PDT

Dear streetwear community

I am relatively new to the streetwear reddit and I am here looking for new perspective and inspiration. When I first entered the streetwear world I started reading magazines like FADER, Hypebeast, Complex etc. and that was cool because through those magazines I was able to find my own personal style. I even discovered that I was also really into things like film and photography. Fast forward 2 years later I still love film, photography and fashion but I noticed that those same places that I went to for inspiration have gotten kind of washed (for a lack of better words lol). What are some magazines/pages that you guys enjoy? Where do you guys get your inspiration?

[DISCUSSION] What's the Most Comfortable and Adaptable Streetwear Shoe?

Posted: 02 Jun 2018 10:05 AM PDT

Hey guys, I'm going travelling soon, I need a pair of shoes that will both go with a large amount of fits (I'm going to hot countries so will be wearing more colourful summery fits), but also comfortable to walk long distances in whilst interrailling across Europe.

My original plan was to go for a high top chuck (black or white) just so that my fits still look coordinated, but came to the realisation that it would be extremely taxing on my feet. They're also not that sturdy of a shoe compared to more trainer style shoes. And with the amount of walking I'll be doing it could really wear them down.

I've been looked at a lot of new balance 373's, but was wondering if there were any better alternatives for the same price (£50).

I'm based in the UK also so will need shoes available here.

All recommendations would be helpful. Cheers.

[DISCUSSION] Redditors who can sew clothes and streetwear pieces, how would a beginner start?

Posted: 01 Jun 2018 10:44 AM PDT

With summer in action, I want to learn how sew, because it seemed cool to have a lot of freedom making cool streetwear pieces (also, bc I'm short).

But after looking around for some youtube videos, I'm wondering where and how everybody started in the process of learning how to sew. Did you practice using the machine first? Did you learn the basics first, or did you just jump into your first project? What are good fabric to use? How much practice does it take to make the super cool cut and sew pieces?

TL;DR: How did you learn how to sew, and how did that process look like?
