[DISCUSSION] Want some great track pants, need advice

Posted: 24 Jul 2018 12:31 AM PDT

Hi there, yesterday I was looking for some track pants and I stumbed upon these from ONLY NY: https://onlyny.com/collections/summer-2018/products/nylon-track-pants-sage

https://imgur.com/a/6vzEGWG

Thing is that ONLY NY doesn't ship overseas (I'm from Madrid, Spain). Do you guys know some track pants in that price range and style ? ( nylon, not to baggy and flashy, with elastic cuffs at hem..)

thanks!

[Discussion] Men's Skirts

Posted: 23 Jul 2018 11:24 AM PDT

Lately i've been interested in greek sculpture and similar, and from there i've found something I'd like to buy soon, which is a men's skirt, ankle length, black colour and with quite some draping. now I'm wondering what the streetwear community over here thinks of it, do you like it or do you hate it. I want to hear whatever thoughts you have surrounding the subject of skirts and maybe other pieces which are 'only for a certain gender' I'm also open for recommendations, since there aren't many skirts especially made for men(as far as i know), except for kilts ofcourse!

[ART] diy vest

saw this vest online and really like the concept with the crossing straps in the back and the overall look so I traced a vest of mine and altered it. I went with a different fabric and lining because I couldnt find a normal cotton fabric that flowed as nicely, that's why I went with corduroy. It's not as versatile as the original but I really like how it turned out.

[DISCUSSION] What Makes Us Buy Streetwear?

Posted: 23 Jul 2018 12:37 PM PDT

What makes us buy streetwear? Under WDYWTs, I often see brands I've never heard of before mentioned. After googleing these brands, I see a wealth of info about them and I'm curious as to how I've never heard of them before. On top of this, some of these brands have very little or no graphic design, simply colored fabrics. This begs the question of why people would prefer the brand over something you would find in Old Navy. There is the sort of pride in having a rare piece no one else knows about, but the thing is no one knows about it so it's not much different than Old Navy, at least to the naked eye. And the obvious answer of "influencers wear it" i.e asap rocky and kanye making VLONE and Off White popular or even the people on here wearing a brand in their wdywt. And for a while I thought that was the answer too. But then I see celebrities all over instagram shouting out and wearing brands with less than 100 followers I know it's not the answer. So I ask again, what makes us buy streetwear? What is it about brands that makes them seem unique or interesting enough to spend money on? Is it a combination of the factors I named? or is it something else?? Leave comments below, I'm stumped.

.

.

.

. Edit: I have built somewhat of little theory myself, what i'm hearing is a purchase follows these steps:

Importance: Recognizing the brand is important(celeb wearing it, a documentary about it)

Investigation: Looking into the brand more and finding stuff you like

Connection: Feeling an emotional connection and relating to the brand and purchasing

And the last step is spreading the brand to other people

[NEWS] Grailed Heatwave Week 5: "World Gone Mad: BAPE"

Posted: 23 Jul 2018 07:20 AM PDT

We're celebrating our community this summer with Monday giveaways through Instagram and Thursday drops featuring amazing items from our archive.

For our fifth giveaway, in partnership with "Highsnobiety", we're helping you outfit your space with some bold BAPE-branded home goods. Any streetwear brand can cook up a few T-shirts, hats and hoodies with their respective logos and graphics. It takes a true icon to serve up something that can outfit—not just your closet—but your entire living space. Like fellow streetwear titans Supreme and Stüssy, NIGO's BAPE has always found success for creating offbeat and irreverent items that incorporate its proprietary graphics, especially those including its many camouflages and Ape Head icon. Some of the most exclusive and impressive items BAPE has ever released range from small decor (like clocks or books) to full-on furniture.

This week's giveaway includes:

  1. BAPE Performance Ping Pong Set (2018)
  2. BAPE Ape Head Rug (2015)
  3. BAPE Shark Hoodie Baby Milo Plush Doll (SS17)
  4. BAPE x The Impossible Project Polaroid SX-70 Camera (SS12)
  5. BAPE Dog Bed (2010)
  6. BAPE x Modernica Case Study Side Shell Chair (FW16)
  7. BAPE ABC Camo Skateboard Deck (2017)
  8. BAPE Wall Clock (2017)
  9. BAPE x Rizzoli Coffee Table Book (FW08)
  10. BAPE x Pepsi Bottles (2001)

And here's how to play:

  1. Follow @grailed and @highsnobiety on Instagram.
  2. Head to the link in our Instagram bio or Instagram Story (https://www.grailed.com/heatwave) to learn more about the items in this contest and to preview next week's giveaway.
  3. Tag three friends and comment which item you want to win.

Disclaimer: The 10 winners of this giveaway will be selected and contacted on July 27th. You have until 11:59pm EST on July 26th to enter. To be considered for entry, you must complete all of the aforementioned steps. The three friends you tag must follow your Instagram page. While you can enter for all items available in this giveaway, only 10 unique winners will be selected.

Along with the giveaway, we'll be dropping 20 of our favorite BAPE collaboration items on Thursday at 12 pm EST. When you have an archive of products like BAPE, it's easy to find items from the in-house lines that can pique the interest of fans and casual followers. It's the collaborations, however, that really showcase the universal appeal of such a globally recognized (streetwear) brand. It's not easy to stay at the top of your field for a quarter century but, then again, not every brand is quite as beloved as BAPE. Click the link below for more information on this week's Heatwave drop, and check back on Thursday to shop the collection: https://www.grailed.com/drycleanonly/heatwave-drop-5

[DISCUSSION] Brands

Posted: 22 Jul 2018 10:10 PM PDT

I was just starting out in the streetwear community and was wondering what are brands I should steer clear when constructing my fit and brands that are well received! For reference I like baggy, colourful tops with mostly sweats for bottoms with the occasional shorts/dresspants/jeans. I have messed around with layering but never do over 3 items.

[DISCUSSION] Hand wraps in fashion

Posted: 23 Jul 2018 02:19 AM PDT

You know this boxing tape, which fighters wear to protect their thumbs and fists? Idea of using them as a part of fit came to me just today and by far I haven't found a single mention of this before.

I've seen them worn only in martial arts, kung-fu movies and post-apocalyptic movies. I think if used correctly they can help to achieve harsh look.

Are they too constricting for prolonged wear? Do you consider them too costume-ish to be viable as an accessory? Do they look odd and try-hard?

[Discussion] Favourite pair/brand of cargo pants?

Posted: 22 Jul 2018 09:52 AM PDT

Hey guys,

My favourite pair of black cargo pants were unfortunately laundried by accident one too many times- it's now too small and too faded. I'm looking for a new one. Any suggestions?

I have the budget of a poor student but I don't mind investing in quality clothes that will be used frequently. Let me know!

[discussion] need some advice on a retro/vintage windbreaker from the 90s and how it should be worn

Posted: 22 Jul 2018 06:19 AM PDT

Hey, I don't know if this fits this sub but I figured I would post this here along with r/malefashionadvice since this is more of a hobby sub than general advice. After seeing a musician I like at a concert wearing this jacket i've looked into getting it. Here it is, I think it would look fantastic paired with white sneakers, not sure about the kind of shorts id need yet but jeans would of course go well. My issue is im 6'2" and 155lbs so on the thin side. I've never worn baggy jackets like this, especially with cinched waists so I don't know if I should worry since this is one size fits all (and also since the style is SUPPOSED to be baggy). Another option is to buy one new since SURFSTYLE still makes them, and I could get it in a medium instead which might be better but i'm concerned about it being too short. Here is the new one. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help!

[Discussion] Need advice on how to pair this weird/flashy bomber I thrifted today

Posted: 22 Jul 2018 09:26 PM PDT

Figured I'd xpost to /r/malefashionadvice, but this is really more /r/streetwear 's domain I think.

I'm looking to add to my clean casual look with some more 'out-there' styles. I'm trying to get more weird/unique with things, but there is still good/bad weirdness of course. What would be good to pair with this thrift-store buy?

https://imgur.com/q9tbMTq

I think with the right combination this could be really really dope, but I'm still trying some things out. I was thinking a black shirt and white pants/socks/shoes, but other ideas would be good. Beyond this, anybody have any general inspo/advice for stuff more out there?

[DISCUSSION] Websites that sell clothes in a Sleepaway Camp/Call Me By Your Name 80s style?

Posted: 22 Jul 2018 07:44 AM PDT

I'm about to drop a portion of my paycheck on some new clothes, but before I do I was wondering if you guys know about any cool places (besides thrift stores obviously) that sell the same sort of short shorts/loose fitting t shirts associated with 80s movies like the ones I listed. Any help would be appreciated a lot!!

[Discussion] Short Sleeve Print Shirts

Posted: 22 Jul 2018 05:12 AM PDT

Really like the Prada print style of short sleeve shirts, rather than just stripes or Hawaiian design... Don't mind some random pattern designs though.

However, Prada is mad expensive, are there any other brands or websites I should look at (Already checked ASOS Zara Topman All Saints Nordstrom).

Budget is anything under $120 USD.
