The "proof" in the call-out against 375 Popup was fake? The plot thickens...

I'm not saying that the sample is 100% confirmed to be not fake yet, but I highly doubt it is. This is a compilation of evidence.

Pt 1:

First, let's look at who organized the sample sale. The sample sale was organized by 375 Popup and Grailed. We all have confidence in Grailed, and the items in this collaboration sold through Grailed have all been 100% verified by Grailed to be legitimate. 375 Popup's merchandise is provided through a channel called NewGuardsGroup_ which is an official Off-White Distributer. So if this piece is by any chance fake, it's either because

  1. NewGuardsGroup_ is a fraud

  2. 375 Popup was lying about being affiliated with NewGuardsGroup_

  3. Someone internal did a one-of scam using 375 Popup's and Grailed's reputation.

The first two I find unlikely, but we can ask /u/grailedofficial to verify this in time. The point is though, that the chance of the item being sold is fake, is extremely low, considering the organizations involved and the fact that many pieces that were sold have been verified to be legitimate. I'm not discounting the chance of the third though. There are greedy fuckers out there.

Pt 2:

Alright, now let's look at the piece itself. It is important to note that this is a SAMPLE SALE. Samples are not 1:1 copies of retail versions, especially when it comes to tags. Brands like Supreme will often have samples with different tags or no tags. While I have not personally interacted with a sample Off-White piece, it's quite reasonable to assume that any Off-White samples will have minor differences in tags.

As you can see, everything from the fabric textures, to the location of the stitchings, to the drawstrings, are spot on. The only difference is the tag (the fabric down the middle in the retail version isn't a seam, it's part of the tag, there's been confusion about this in previous posts before), and maybe the eyelets (one is more rounded than the other but that could easily be due to the lighting/camera angles, and small things like eyelets are often adjusted for the retail version). So here's the question I want you to think about: If this was a rep, why would they be 100% spot on with the most important details pertaining to the drawstrings, fabric used, stitching, etc, but blatantly pick an entirely different tag when tags are often the first things checked when spotting reps? If by any chance this WAS a rep, it's not only extremely high quality and close to retail, but made by a retard at the same time, which just doesn't make sense.

Pt3:

Ok, now let's look at the user, /u/Yamshh , who called this out in the first place.

And before you guys roast me for being a bitch and going through the lengths to call him out, I was actually just gonna mention that his proof seems to be fake in a comment that would have 100% been buried. I then even deleted it since it seemed like useless drama. My assertion here? That his email was fake and he only made the post to redeem himself after getting roasted. I'd like to preface this post by saying that he admitted it himself that it "felt good to prove everyone wrong": https://www.reddit.com/r/streetwear/comments/6cwhyw/regarding_to_my_previous_post_about_the_ow/dhy6fqs/

Now even assuming that his email was real, Grailed has made the statement that everything they have seen so far from 365 Popup has been legit, and that they are backed by a legitimate supplier. They also noted that there was a chance that the email customer service representative at Off-White probably doesn't know anything about legit checking samples. But let's not worry too much over that, I don't plan on falling back on that.

First let's look at the things that are wrong with his email:

  1. The sent dates don't match (circled in red): http://imgur.com/a/BeCQ6

  2. I asked him to forward me the message so I could verify its legitimacy, here's a screenshot of it (Mods, note that his email is personal information he posted himself, and he himself forwarded this to me): http://imgur.com/a/GVnd6

  3. Now here's a few screenshots of my own. Here's his forwarded email, and everything indicating that it's probably fake: http://imgur.com/XtfbYLO

  • One is forwarding a reply that I received. Notice that it looks different from his. So I thought, maybe it's because he's doing it through iPhone and I did it through my computer. Nope. Same exact thing on my phone later. However, there is the off chance that he has a different Gmail app version, so it's not the most definitive of proofs. (My tests: http://imgur.com/a/D2u8w)

  • Another thing that's wrong with it is the subject matter line. Usually gmail doesn't autogenerate subjects, you have to put them in yourself. However, this could again be a difference in versions so I'll let that go.

  • The dates don't match. If you look towards the top, one is in EDT, as "May 23, 2017 at 10:30:23 AM EDT", the date in the middle doesn't specify any time zone: "May 22, 2017 at 3:21 AM". It seems unlikely to me that coders at Gmail coded in this type of inconsistency. Also, I just googled "EDT" and it seems as if google refers to it as just "ET" or "UTC - 4" (Not shown in SS, but if you look at time zone settings under google calendar), not as EDT: http://imgur.com/a/OjCy0

  • The "name" of the sender is wrong. See that little <> right before the Off White email? The name of their email account is just "size_info", no caps, or with all that bullshit behind it, as shown in this screenshot: http://imgur.com/a/o2KJM . It's also kind of weird that only the "White.com" part is permalinked, as the whole thing was permalinked when I included I copy pasted their email into the bodies of one of mine, and sent it to myself (you can test this out for yourself, but just know that this is an indication of email spoofing, as the characters are "glitched" to look like others so to speak. There are videos online about similar types of text manipulation, as well as server spoofing).

  • To add insult to injury, not only can he photoshop/inspect element (you can try to call me out for the same thing, but everything I have here is reproducible), but you can spoof email accounts, as shown in this example that I made: https://imgur.com/gallery/outYt . There are services that get sent straight to spam on sketchier websites that undoubtedly do the work for free. I'm even more suspicious since it took him 30 minutes to forward the email to me despite regular reddit activity after I asked for the forwarded email.

Conclusion/TLDR

There's a good chance that OP is lying, and even if he isn't, there's a good chance that the Off White rep doesn't know what he's talking about, and that the sample is real. Again, I'm not dismissing the possibility that this could be a rep. I'd just like to see proof in the form of someone pointing out a similar rep, or a judgment from someone we know is credible enough to make out trust in Grailed and an official Off-White supplier irrelevant. Don't be so quick to start a witch hunt boys.

Announcing the UK Music/ Streetwear magazine I suggested in r/streetwear 4 months ago

4 Months ago I posted in here about an idea I had to launch a FREE UK based streetwear/ music mag. Within a fortnight I managed secure funding through a colleague of mine, and began working on it full time.

Yesterday we released our debut cover with grime MC Novelist, and got support from i-D and Crack Magazine. Internally we've got more content, including an exclusive in-store with Patta Amsterdam.

So I'm sometimes out with friends or talking to someone I don't know all that well and they'll ask how much a certain piece of clothing I'm wearing cost. I don't particularly mind the question itself, but if I'm wearing something pricey I kind of feel like a prick saying the price. "Oh, these are my $400 Dior jeans." Is that justified? Should I just answer without pause? What do you guys normally do?
