[PSA] Don't Order Anything From Stromoctober

Posted: 15 Sep 2017 11:32 PM PDT

Title says it all, I was looking for a black hoodie for fall, one with subtle hints of red. I found the perfect one. The Stromoctober Nightfall hoodie looked right up my alley, having heard great things from this subreddit I placed my order. The day the hoodie arrived I was, well pissed. One this 62 fucking dollar hoodie is Gildan, tag not even cut off, the Screen Printing is shitty and that is still not amply describing it. So I go not a big deal I will just reach out Im sure they will understand why issues with their product. Nope, one it takes me 7 days to get a hold of the owner as I had to talk to some customer service rep who didnt even have the power to issue a refund. Then finally he replies:

"furthermore, gildan hoodies are of great quality for the price range"

ya fucking 12 dollars on amazon mother fucker not 62 dollars for you to print a design on. and furthermore he will not be refunded me even though the hoodie doesnt fucking fit cuz its fuckign gildan and Im 6 feet tall. 10/10 business model. And when I confront him on it he says

Only select few stores do size replacement

They may not but all motherfuckers have returns. TL;DR: Bought hoodie, shit quality, doesn't fit. Contacts customer service gets told to fuck off. And now I'm down 62 bucks and have a hoodie I might just fucking burn. This sucks because I'm probably never ordering from a street wear startup company again.

The "Designer Utilitarian Punk/Grunge" Aesthetic Guide + Inspo

Posted: 16 Sep 2017 12:30 AM PDT

I'm super bored at my house, so I figured why not? For the most part, this is just that new wave punk shit that people have been dressing up as. I like it a lot so I figured it's time for me to spread knowledge on here since I'm such a critical asshole from time to time rather than feeling like being helpful.

So, what the fuck is this shit?

Let's use context clues.

u·til·i·tar·i·an

yo͞oËŒtiləˈterÄ“É™n

adjective

1.designed to be useful or practical rather than attractive.

synonyms: practical, functional, pragmatic, serviceable, useful, sensible, efficient, utility, workaday, no-frills

So, you kinda get the premise. The "Punk/Grunge" portions generally come from the clothing brands being used for this type of look. It does kind of lean into some designer, but can be done relatively cheap, I guess (until you get to the footwear portion, that is).

The Look Itself

For the most part, you're looking at shit like this, this, and this. It's not really an emphasis on silhouette or graphics or anything, but more so the overall look, feel, and message being conveyed. What's kinda nice about it is that it's not entirely focused on being tight fitting either, so get the most out of that as you can.

Oh, and it also branches into a militaristic vibe from time to time.

Outerwear - You're looking at leather jackets, parkas, chore and field jackets, pea and overcoats, trench coats (only if they're cool and 9/10 they aren't), military jackets and shit. Sweaters, turtlenecks, and cardigans can obviously be incorporated into this. Who doesn't fuck with a nice striped sweater or turtleneck from time to time anyway?

Shirts - Usually long or short sleeve tees. Oversized shit works really well here. Sweatshirts and shit are a given. Graphic tees and vintage tees are a thing here too. Design of the shirt doesn't really matter imo.

Pants - Skinny or slim jeans, (cropped, wide leg, drop crotch) trousers, fatigue pants, cargos pants/shorts. That's generally it. No sweatpants. Motherfuckers will most likely incorporate track pants since that's the wave right now....and admittedly they're pretty cool when done right. As long as they aren't adidas tiro joints.

Shoes - This is wear shit gets real. 9/10 any of the people you see doing this type of look usually have expensive shit on. I'll talk about brands in a bit but for now: 8-eyelet boots, combat boots, 10-eyelet boots, high/low-top sneakers, fucking sandals, derbies, chelseas/harness boots.

Accessories - You'll often see me commenting on peoples' lack of jewelry in the WDYWT. Well, you're god damn right. Accessories, in my most honest and humble wannabe/future stylist's opinion, make or break outfits nowadays. Often times, wearing a couple of rings and necklaces, hell, even some dope glasses and belts elevate an outfit from shit to moderately less shitty. Rings, belts, wallet chains (12-year old punk boiz unite), and necklaces do the shit.

Brands

So, I'm not gonna beat around the bush. This shit can get pricy, but don't be discouraged! It's definitely still possible to do this shit without looking like a complete fool (see: broke boi Gucci, broke boi SLP with no effort, etc.).

Note: No shit, you should be using grailed, ebay, and thrifting up the asshole.

So, for the low end shit like tees, cheap jeans, sweaters and shit without getting too specific with branding, Uniqlo, H&M, Zara, Urban Outfitters, Dickies, etc. are your best bet.

Now, looking into specific brands that fit this look, on the other hand....

  • Undercover - All of it lol

  • Number (N)ine - All of it lol

  • Rick Owens - Boots, jackets, pants, etc....To be honest, most of RO covers this, but there are some pieces that might look a little out of place.

  • Carhartt WIP and Dickies - Yes I mentioned dickies again so fucking what? Both of these workwear brands definitely have a place here. They both do incredible collabs that make for some nice pieces to fit this shit.

  • BEAMS Plus, Wacko Maria, United Arrows - I only really think of both of these for their outerwear, tbh.

  • Levis - Good ol' levis got the best fuckin denim in the game. Fuck Acne, fuck Nudies, fuck A.P.C., they all pay homage to Levis. Cheap and durable denim jackets/pants....though the quality control is kinda shit.

Oh, and really for denim it doesn't matter what the fuck you use.

Boots, on the other hand, is a whole other story. Tbh, most of the boots that the inspo people wear are super expensive, but if you're looking for cheap alternative cuz ya funds are smol:

  • Dr. Martens - 8 and 10 eyelet boots and derbies for cheap ass prices that you can literally buy practically anywhere. Though, always check places like Grailed and eBay because they're marginally cheaper there. Oh, and you kinda wanna stay away from the "Made in China/Taiwan" ones because the quality isn't as good as the vintage/"Made in England" joints.

  • German Jump Boots (military surplus, Corcoran, paratroopers) - Look for jump boots and shit. Tons of German jump boots on ebay for sub $80. Brands like Corcoran and shit have some for a little bit more though.

  • Nike SFBs/Rothco Boots - Okay, I'm going to be real I fucking hate both of these shoes because every motherfucker from here/every other fashion forum 1-2 years ago kept wearing these shits. The silhouette always made me wanna gag and I don't like thinking of "combat boots" with nylon uppers. That being said, they definitely work here and aren't super expensive.

  • Rag and Bone, All Saints - These are alright. Definitely pretty good if you get them below retail. Don't spend full price money on any of it.

Which reminds me, do not for the love of God spend money on fast fashion/cheap boots. Asos, Zara, H&M, Forever 21, Macy's, Walmart, Urban Outfitters, etc...you'll be highly upset when they fall apart on you.

Now, for the pricier shits:

  • Rick Owens - Spiral, Combats...pretty much any. Personally, I hate Geobaskets and any of the other bulky sneakers with this tbh. If I see one more fucking pair of Ramones....

  • Ann Demeulemeester - Especially for boots. You can find some on Grailed mainly. Vitellos, Scamosciatos, etc.

  • Carol Christian Poell - Excellent shit here. Still wanting a pair of CCP Tornadoes....They're pretty fucking expensive though, and I'm talking Grailed prices.

  • Attachment (KKA), Julius_7 - The former is definitely cheaper than the latter and I think it only comes in sizes up to 43.5. That being said, they're both dope

  • The Last Conspiracy, A1923 - Also supposed to be good boots, but I don't know much about either of them.

  • Guidi - Supposedly the best of the best. Highest quality leather boots you can get, though they are also an arm and a leg.

Sneakers:

I'm not really even gonna talk about this shit because it's really obvious here. Vans, Converse, Nike, Rick Owens, Common Projects, etc. Tbh, you can kinda wear whatever here.

Oh, and now all that dribble is out of the way:

The Inspo Album™

It's extra smol cuz I got lazy.

edit: one last thing, for inspo you have shui tsang, jakob hetzer, garrett wilson, jacob keller, gallucks, etc.

Are the Palladium Pampa HI Originale good?

Posted: 16 Sep 2017 02:51 AM PDT

I'm looking for some palewave-ish winter shoes, and I came across the Palladium Pampa Hi Originales and they looked nice in the sahara/ecru colorway. So I am wondering if anyone owns these and if they are worth buying.

Most comfortable, low quality elastic-y denim?

Posted: 15 Sep 2017 12:01 PM PDT

I've had a pair of $20 H&M jeans for the last year that are basically Man jeggings. They feel like elastic, they're super thin and breathable, and honestly I'm not sure the material can even be called denim at this point. However they're the best jeans I've ever owned due to exactly that. I want more, but they only come in black and I want other colors. I've owned $150 raw nudie denim and the thickness of the raw denim was horrible for me. It feels like all the denim I try on is too thick and uncomfortable when they're skinny fitted on my legs.

What are some other denim brands that are literally the lowest shittiest denim one can imagine, but are made of like elastic so they're super breathable and comfortable and not thick and sweaty and uncomfortable? Quality is not the object here lmao
