[DIY] 30-day Techwear Design Challenge - 10days In Review - Pt.1of3 Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:20 PM PST Greetings Folks! And Welcome to the 30-day DIY Techwear Design Challenge. . My school and industry mentors have challenged me with the task of trying to create a new product - from scratch - everyday - for 30 days... and I am currently on day 10! I've put together below a 10-days in review of my progress so far. I'm a second year Student of Fashion Design - studying in the city of Vancouver. Since September I've been interning at a local research and design firm to gain exposure to technical fashion design, construction techniques, and the real-world process behind bringing wild ideas to life... . I'm taking this online in hopes that of getting feedback/suggestions/criticisms as to what I should construct each day, at this point I've only a very vague plot of where to begin and what to make. (it was suggested that I start a Blog or Instagram account for this, but I'm a bit of a noob with the whole social media thing and creating/maintaining a website is a total mystery to me... however I've been lurking Reddit for a while now and I'm pretty sure I can handle this - please do let me know if I'm doing it wrong!) . Its my hope that I can share with the community a behind-the-scenes look into the production of the products we all love, while being able to experiment with new ideas we'd like to see but don't yet exist. . My obsession with techwear has become clinical at this point, made worse by the simple fact that I'm a broke student very much unable to afford the level of craftsmanship in my attire which has come to haunt me. To try and fix this I've been saving every penny I can since this 30-day challenge was presented to me last November. I'm happy to say -with the support of my friends and family- I've been able to put together a small pot of funds that I can put towards financing 30-days of techwear design. . At the end of this project, I'd like to be able to assemble the 30-day log and the products created into a portfolio which I can use to find a job. I'm still very new to this but it's clear to me that technical apparel and accessories design is where I want to focus my ambitions and career. With any luck this project will be an appealing application for a design position with one of the larger industry players. . You can check out the 10-days in review gallery at the link below: . Individual posts from each day can be followed below if you'd like to see the behind the scenes making of project log for each day of the challenge: . A MASSIVE SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE WHO HAS POSTED IN SUPPORT SO FAR. The response has been unimaginably positive. Thank you all again and again. . Please do post with comments, suggestions, criticisms, or requests. The community engagement so far has really encouraged me to take these projects further than I could have imagined at the outset 10-days ago. . Thanks for reading. Tune in tomorrow for Day 11! I made these 3 shirts in my style of artwork! Posted: 12 Feb 2018 01:06 PM PST I've been transferring my artwork style over to clothes and blankets recently. This is my latest experiment. If you're interested in seeing the other stuff I've made and my other artwork please take a look at my Instagram. I make these shirts by cutting out fleece fabric and then using a sewing machine to attach them to the rugby polo shirts. I chose fleece fabric as it doesn't fray, is light and is soft. The imagery I chose comes directly from the work I mainly do with card/paper cut-outs on board. I first experimented with fleece fabric with my blankets that I have been making over the past few months. I then received a few direct messages asking if I made similar things with clothes so I thought I would give it a shot. Again if you like my work I would appreciate it if you had a look at my Instagram as that is my main outlet for showing my new work. [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 04:58 PM PST hey r/streetwear. so lets talk school bags. my nike hoops air max 1.0 bag's zipper just got RIP'd while i was skating and im currently in need of a new bag. something minimalistic will be cool and can hold up to about 15 lbs of books. if it could also hold a skateboard or something like a pennyboard, that would be great. if you were wondering, i already considered fixing the zipper on the bag myself, but i would rather just buy a new bag bcoz whenever i put shit in it it has a low depression on the top. leave ur suggestions down below, and outfits that go along with backpacks would be swell aswell. thanks reddit as always ;) ps im in need of a new wardrobe and clothing suggestions will help too (im into uniqlo golf palace and other brokeboi brands)! John Elliott Debuts A New Version of the Nike Air Monarch: the M2k Techno Posted: 12 Feb 2018 11:26 AM PST Designer John Elliott is quite familiar in Nike's camp. Thus far, Elliott has collaborated on the Nike Vandal multiple times, as well as the Air Force 1. Earlier today, Elliott showed off his new "Distortion" Collection at his fashion show at NYFW. As part of the collection, he teased a few collabs, and a new version of the Nike Air Monarch (dubbed the M2K Techno). The M2K Techno is a spin on the OG Air Monarch updated for current dad shoe trends. The shoe will have a colored overlay on the upper, as well as an altered midsole. Additionally, the shoe has a smaller Swoosh below the one on the medial. Posted: 13 Feb 2018 02:11 AM PST EDIT: As in your first expensive piece. I see so many fits on here that are insane, and some that are suddle, but I swear every time I see the product list and search them up their moderately expensive, to just insane. I can never take the jump to spend money like that, at least not yet. Although the more I see on this sub the more all this stuff is starting to appeal to me. Their are so many brands out here to explore. I'd definitely like to hear your guy's journey into I guess higher end clohes. At work I'll happen to stumble upon people who are wearing some of the stuff I want to buy and the conversations I have with these people are always amazing, the community a t shirt can create is beyond me. I have been saving up to buy some Rick/Y-3 stuff. I like the idea that a lot of these products tend to retain their value over time and of cleaning out my wardrobe and starting from scratch kind of. The main thing im starting to dislike about this though are all the resellers coppin stuff with bots and all. I respect the hustle until a piece I wanted gets sold out asap lol. OFF-WHITE x Jordan 1 "White": Release Date Changed Posted: 13 Feb 2018 03:32 AM PST At the Jordan Future of Flight event that took place in Los Angeles back in Jan, one pair of shoes stood much more anticipated than the others. Virgil Abloh's OFF-WHITE x Jordan 1 "White" is the follow up to the Chicago release from last year. Unfortunately, fewer people will get this pair than the one from last year. The shoe will feature the same deconstructed look of the Jordan 1 from last year. The shoe adds color to it in the form of the Blue and Orange stitching holding the Swoosh together. Also, the zip tie will be done in Blue. There also seems to be a blue tint on the base of the shoe. The Black labeled design from the last release is present, as is the hanging tongue tag. Sneakersnstuff has just announced that the release date will change from Feb. 27 to Mar. 3. More info on the shoe's raffle release coming soon. Posted: 12 Feb 2018 03:10 PM PST I'm looking for items from brands that are hard to acquire. I don't mean rare Supreme or Bape pieces, but actually items from brands that are difficult to obtain (most likely expensive as well). Some examples are Mastermind Japan (Although now that Mastermind WORLD is established is considerably easier to find). Some other examples include Chrome Hearts (No official online store) and Goyard (Same as CH, also I know this isn't streetwear). I also already know of Bijan and Roland Iten but those things are waaay out of budget for a brokeboi like me. If y'all can help me find any similar brands I'd appreciate it :) [link] [comments]

How should my clotbing fit? (Thic boi) Posted: 12 Feb 2018 08:20 AM PST Ive always struggled with tje actual fit of my clothing.. im in between average and tall, and ibe always been fat to be blunt about it. Over the last few years i have been steadily losing tbe weight. But due to genetics my fat deposits in weird places, IE. Hips (i have a muffin top) excess in chest.. etc. Its weird because now im close to skinny but still have these fat deposits... anyway. Ive had this issue for as long as i can remember. I buy a Large t shirt and it usually fits my torso properly, but is short on me.. or i buy a XL and the torso is really baggy, but the length feels right. What would be a better look in your opinion? Proper torso fit but short, or more baggy? Granted like i said i still am a little overweight otherwise i think the baggy look works well on skinny people.. but on me it makes me feel more self concious. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Feb 2018 01:15 PM PST I love most outfits I see on here but I'll be damned if my inner child doesn't see something funky and unique when shopping online and immediately click "add to cart." So I'm curious if many people have similar tastes that jump out at them (Pingy's striped T-shirts, Nike Gatorade shoes, Golf Wang clothing, Daily Paper)? I don't go to the extremes as Tyler the Creator, being a muscular white guy I can't copy K-Pop artists. But really keen to see inspo albums, outfits or people that stretch the bar in a direction a little funky and unique to themselves. I can't be the only one who wears a funky coloured G-Shock from time to time :P [link] [comments] |
