[DISCUSSION] They're just clothes

Posted: 17 Dec 2018 11:53 PM PST

Gotta say, I miss the discussions we used to have here.

I hate the way style drives us apart.

Like how your preferences are *irrelevant* but mine are *right*.

Shoutout to my brodies rocking they wardrobe.

Wearing Supreme or Bape.

Gucci or Louis.

Nike or Adidas.

Thrift or Designer.

Boots or Sneakers.

Mono or Chromatic.

Contemporary or Old school.

Homme or Femme.

We're all people and we're all human.

We're all artists and visionaries -- our canvas is the body, the brush is the mind and the paint is the soul.

Years of complex human experiences and interactions in your wardrobe.

Love and respect the beauty of that complexity.

But the complexity of your style doesn't necessarily define who you are.

In case there are people who take my message the wrong way,

why hate when what it all comes down to is the fact that

they're just clothes?

[Inspo]midnghttt's 2019 mood™: workwear and co.

Posted: 17 Dec 2018 08:33 PM PST

the album in all its glory

music to listen to while perusing:

the jam 1

the jam 2

the jam 3

I've pretty much gotten out of streetwear as a whole but definitely still respect and incorporate a lot of the elements within my everyday style, which is mainly just wearing sneakers.

i've become obsessed w/ a new style + it's how i've been dressing nowadays: workwear elements

not everything is gonna be traditional workwear in this album. i had issues finding carhartt wip photos that i wanted to use, but other than that, there's still a ton of good shit in here. a lot of the stuff in here still incorporate streetwear elements, but probably with a ton more boots. key thoughts:

  • margaret howell is my overlord and you will respect her as such. her styling is out of this world imo.
  • carhartt wip is one of the best brands ever
  • nigel cabourn is the dude i wanna be when i'm 60+
  • denim, denim, and more denim. i feel like a lot of people don't really wear raw denim like they used to in 2012-14. imo they're more unique then black cropped trousers rn if you're trying to do something a little different. also, if you're from Dallas, check out Deep Ellum Denim, as they've just opened up and they're super dope.
  • chore coats, engineer pants, work boots, and different fabrics
  • noticeable brands included but not limited to: levis, engineered garments, visvim, carhartt wip, mhl/margaret howell, nigel cabourn, red wing, (probably) stan ray
  • i'm trying to pursue coding + graphic design now. idk thought i should throw that in there.

enjoy. also next album is either gonna be one dedicated to toro y moi or a scandinavian design/minimalist one, seeing as that another portion of wardrobe now.

Rikka gonna kill me but lemme finish!

Our veteran subscribers will already know who this title is aluding to.

If you recognize this then congratulations you're part of streetwear history.

So allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Jeremy and a few years ago I didn't have a job. So I did what any 14-15 year old does and went on the internet. All the fucking time.

I actually found myself getting heavily into fashion stemming from shoes, to replica broke nigga shoes back when we were still getting roasted for "that fufu shit." Yeah that used to happen outside the black communities too bet y'all ain't know that shit huh?

Anyway I put my heart and soul into this subreddit for a good 2 years I'd say. I think from ages 15-17 was where I was really into it. Moderating, commenting on everything and trying my best to be cool.

But after a while it started getting old, I went to kith NYC and basically looked into a mirror. As I watched a bunch of 14 year old kids fondle themselves over some fear of god. Really opened my eyes and even after having this new account just to moderate. I just had to step down as I wanted to part in this any longer....

[DISCUSSION] Survey on fashion for reddit gold!

Posted: 17 Dec 2018 02:17 PM PST

Hi /r/streetwear, this is Caleb Warren and John Yi, two researchers at the University of Arizona. We would like your help with an academic research study on fashion. For our research, we need people to respond to questions on different fashion brands. For participating in our research, you will receive reddit gold. The study should take approximately 5 to 10 minutes of your time.

We suggest that you complete this study on a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer as some of the questions are somewhat more difficult to answer on mobile phones.

Once you have completed the study, we will ask for your reddit username. Next we ask that you simply comment on this post - without divulging any information about the study - and we will gild your comment once we confirm you completed the study.

Unfortunately, our budget is not unlimited. Once we reach 200 started surveys, the survey link will deactivate. We will update this post to let you know when the study is dead, and will be happy to discuss the study and our predictions with you more at that time.

[DISCUSSION] FOG Essentials LS Tee fitting

Posted: 17 Dec 2018 04:46 PM PST

So I just got my new Essentials long sleeve black tee (size large which I usually fit) in the mail today. I knew it was somewhat oversized, but I tried it on and it was easily one maybe two sizes larger. I plan on returning it and buying one that fits better. What size should I get for a proper maybe slightly oversized fit?

[Discussion] What stores/brands to shop if you're just starting to dip your toes into the baggy/oversize aesthetic?

Posted: 17 Dec 2018 02:47 PM PST

https://imgur.com/a/Q3W37uO bought this sweatshirt at h&m because I'm trying to dip my toes into the oversize aesthetic, but I just sized up and I think it just looks proportionally wrong, probably because it's not meant to fit that aesthetic so the drape is weird if I just size up.

Where could I buy something with a better fit at a relatively low price point because I don't want to invest too too much when just starting out.

https://imgur.com/a/9gj2hWn stuff like this looks really good to me, but since I haven't tried to before I'm trying to play it safe with say perhaps an oversized sweatshirt paired with skinny pants. I also prefer to try clothes on in store as opposed to buying online if possible.

[DISCUSSION] Suicoke Sandals

Posted: 17 Dec 2018 11:27 AM PST

Thinking about buying some suicoke moto or kaw sandals, preferably black but would opt for something else if it's a good deal. Would love to know if someone who has them thinks they are worth the 200$ something price tag In terms of comfort and quality.

Going somewhere to try them on tomorrow, but still trying to find someplace selling them relatively cheap and not sold out, anyone know where to cop some cheap and/or when restocks are or a way to find out?

Thanks guys:)
