Feeling cautious about an Instagram contest [DISCUSSION]

Posted: 19 Dec 2018 03:48 PM PST

Hi r/streetwear!

After entering a contest for $300 Off White x AJ1 Chicago's, I get a dm from the page saying I had won. I'll put a link down to the post and the website of the account. Can anyone help me validify this so that I'm not getting scammed out of $300?

TL;DR: Is SL Sneakers legit?

[Discussion] Explain the appeal in today's trends on this subreddit

Posted: 20 Dec 2018 12:46 AM PST

I've been out of the loop for a while. Before I was gone ironic outfits were just that... Ironic

Now I'm seeing fits that would be complete shit being praised like it's groundbreaking. I'm heavily confused and I'm not trying to sound like a dick.

But 2 years ago if you came in here wearing cropped pants, a graphic tee tucked into a Walmart belt and some random athletic shoes. You would've been torn apart saying your proportions are off and irony isn't actually cool.

Now it seems the norm is irony and it *is" actually cool and I don't understand it.

Now I get fashion is all about trends and what nots but with this style I'm seeing a lot now. I am honestly legitimately confused as to how you all think this looks good. I'm not saying it always looks bad because I've seen some people here who pull it off extremely well. But at the same time their clothes are still fitted and it doesn't look like it's supposed to be ironic.

Now we don't have to pretend black American culture does not heavily influence fashion trends. Back in the 90s we were all still homophobic and if you wore tight pants it made you catch the gay.

The New boyz arguably were very key pioneers in the skinny pants movement. Despite who was doing it before them doesn't really matter considering they had the youth of the black American communities wearing neon skinny jeans.

These pushes in the direction of fitted clothes made more rappers stand out to the 2009 generation of fashion trends. Whether they were already on the wave or not does not matter.

What I'm trying to say is things change, fashion evolves and eventually goes full circle. As more influence from different idols, cultures and communities come in. It's bound to have a drastic change.

What I don't get is how we got where we are exactly. Is it meme culture? Was it Kanye? Was it a specific area? For most trends you can visibly see that it's cool and you can explain why it's cool. Also who it's cool to and why it's cool to them.

Basically I only see this type of fashion on this subreddit. I want to know why it's cool and why it's cool to you?

Tldr; read the whole thing you lazy fuck this is discussion.
