[Review] Raf Simons SS17 Robert Mapplethorpe Self Portrait Oversized Shirt Posted: 31 Mar 2018 12:26 AM PDT This is my first time posting a review-type post so I do apologise for any mistakes. I have been eyeing this particular shirt for months and when I finally saw it at a decent price on Grailed, I went for it. I tried to find reviews online of the shirt before buying it but I couldn't, so I decided to make a detailed one for you guys if you ever decide to buy it. Raf Simons SS17 Robert Mapplethorpe Self portrait Oversized shirt Estimated retail price: $1420. I got mine on Grailed for $469 in pristine condition, so do not splurge on this because I'm sure you can get this at a more desirable price. Measurements: Size 44 (XS I believe) Shoulder to end of sleeve: 23.5 inches/59.69 cm Shoulder to end of shirt: 28.5 inches/72.39 cm Shoulder to shoulder: 20 inches/50.8 cm Pit-to-pit: 27.5 inches/ 69.85 cm Fitting: As it's name suggests, it fits really oversized despite being sized XS. From the measurements, you can see that the piece flares out by comparing the STS and PTP measurements. I think this can fit better on taller/people with wider body frames so the fit does not look overly exaggerated, and you can even wear this on its own and not layer it as an overshirt. However, if you're of a smaller build (like I am) and still want to wear this, you will have to find the right size in my opinion. To put things into perspective, I'm 5'7 (171 cm tall) and I had to get an XS, and I'm happy the way it looks on me. I've seen these go in size 42 as well, and all the way up to 50, but I do not have another piece to compare it with but I believe they do not differ in sizing too too much. Quality: The shirt is of superb quality as expected of Raf pieces. The print on the shirt seems like it would not come off easily, I do not know how to describe it but I can post up some pictures of the print if you'd like. The material does not irritate the skin and it is pretty lightweight. As such, it does not do a good job at protecting you from the cold but this makes it wearable in humid and hot weather. I live in a tropical country with summer-like temperatures all year round and I did not sweat much while wearing this over a basic white tee. Colour and care: This shirt is not completely white but instead off-white. Because of this, small, noticeable stains are inevitable, so be sure to take care of the shirt when wearing it out. I have not tried washing the shirt yet but it is recommended on the wash tag to hand wash it. I will update this post when I have tried washing it. Also, creases the shirt are easily solved through ironing, however, I avoid ironing the print, so as to not damage it. I would very much appreciate it if you guys could provide some styling tips for this beautiful piece. I recommend just keeping it simple with monochrome colours and let the fit of the shirt be the main attraction of your outfit, but I'm all ears to your suggestions. I provided some full body pics on the 3rd and 4th pics, and I wore the shirt with a basic white tee from Muji, black trousers from Uniqlo and Nike AF1s. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions and I will try my best to answer them. Thank you! [link] [comments]
[Discussion] How to cover a bad tattoo in the summer? Too hot for long sleeves. Posted: 30 Mar 2018 05:08 PM PDT This might not be quite the right sub for this, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Long story short, I got way too fucked up on vacation last weekend, blacked out in downtown LA, and woke up the next day with a huge, unsightly tattoo covering almost my entire forearm. It's my own fault obviously, but I'm still pretty distraught over it and I feel like a fool. I already had the first laser removal treatment, but it's going to take at least a year before it's either gone or light enough to cover up with a new tattoo that isn't an abomination. I've been making due with hoodies and long sleeve shirts, but it's getting close to summertime and already getting too hot for long sleeves. It's too wide/tall to cover with a sweatband/armband, and I'm dreading the thought of rocking an ace bandage over it for the entirety of the summer. I don't even mind telling people I'm covering a terrible tattoo, I just don't want to have to look at it or show them how bad it is. Anyone have any more creative ideas? Someone suggested the Supreme Shooter Sleeves from last season but I feel like that's way too extra ππ Thank you in advance for your assistance with my regrettable decision ππΌππΌ [link] [comments]
[Discussion] Those who almost exclusively buy reps, why? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 01:24 PM PDT I'm not trying to come across as if I'm shaming you or anything but why do you buy reps? Is it because retail is too high or because of the exclusivity of it? Surely having fakes take away from the fact that you don't actually own the real item. [link] [comments]
[Discussion] Took my Off White hoodie to the cleaners now damaged Posted: 30 Mar 2018 12:57 PM PDT I was really reluctant in the first place but then I thought to mylelf, "hey they probably deal with a bunch of expenisve dresses and designer stuff all the time so a hoodie shouldn't be much of an issue" Dropped it off on Tuesday, went to pick it up on Friday and it looked fine except for one thing, the metal piece at one of the ends of the hood string was missing... They said they will try to find the missing piece and fix it but I wanted to know if anyone has been in a similar situation before and if so what did you end up doing? (Note: I paid $520 for the Seeing things maroon sweatshirt from ssense.com ) Thanks in advance [link] [comments]

[DISCUSSION] The Future of Streetwear YouTube?? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 07:31 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm a growing streetwear YouTuber looking to up my game and grow a engaging community around my channel. Since I've started, I've seen the streetwear YouTube community head in the direction where the most popular channels seem to be the people with the biggest credit card, and I guess as streetwear goes it's based on new products and consumerism so I get it's good to show of new things ect. but it seems to gone way to far wear it's not so much about the fit or the pieces it's all about the hype, the price tag and the flex. Now I'm not saying the hyped items are bad, I quite like and wish I had a few more of these piece but my issue is people just wearing terribly out together fits with pieces just because they cost a lot or has a certain brand regardless of its look or quality. Now what I want to put to this group is what do you watch on YouTube regarding streetwear? What channels do you like? What videos to you like? And what would you like to see more of on the YouTube platform regarding streetwear? Feel free to comment your fave streetwear or sneaker YouTubers and if I haven't seen them I'll check them out! Currently on my channel I've done all types of videos from vlogs to reviews to styling tips just to try and see what works and I want to know what you guys like to see most! For all of you who don't know I'm an Australian so I'm bringing a slightly different perspective, especially with my streetwear vlogs, to the whole game. I've also got heaps of plans up my sleeves but I don't want to be doing anything that I know won't interest my niche which is why I'm making this post because I want people like you to join my channels community! I'll link my channel below because I'd really appreciate if you'd leave some feedback on my current content so I know what's good and bad, but yes, you guys as my target niche what do you want to see? I like the extent of this subreddit because it's more about the fits and the pieces but still acknowledges a little bit of hype and that's the vibe I want my content and my channel to have. Thanks for your feedback guys really appreciate it! Joshua [link] [comments]

[DISCUSSION] Best way to clean and restore dusty old fitted hat? Pics inside Posted: 30 Mar 2018 07:33 AM PDT Sup, Streetwear fam! First off, I would like to apologize to anyone I hurt with these photos. I know, I should have taken better care of these hats. Now, I was rummaging through my old stuff at my parents and discovered I still had a few of my old hats. I'm pretty sure St. Alfred doesn't make most these styles or colorway anymore and I really want to wear em, so was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to recondition these bad boys? Overall, the brims seem to be fine and decent consution. Not brand new but not flimsy either and no majot bending. Mostly concerned about getting the 10 years of dust and whatever else off so I can wear them without fear of being hospitalized. Also, I've read this awesome write up here but want to make sure I can still use this method considering these are colorful fitted hats. Is oxyclean ok to use given the material and colors? If anyone has any other methods, suggestions and or products you've used, would be much appreciated. Thanks for readin! [link] [comments] |
