[REVIEW] I live in Paris and i've been hanging around the Fashion Week hot spots - UPDATE

Posted: 24 Jun 2018 07:23 PM PDT

Hey, I made a post a few days ago about my experience during the Paris Fashion Week as an amateur photograher. I had a photo album on the way, but by some spectacular occurence of bad luck, I have been robbed on Saturday afternoon of my phone which contained, amongst other things, all the shoots from the past FW.

I am safe and sound and haven't lost anything too important, thankfully I didn't have my PC on me that day, which would have been a disaster, but unless my phone is retrieved by the police in time which is highly unlikely, all of that work is gone. Sorry for anybody that's been waiting on these.

I've got an album of streetwear illustrations based on my favorite fits on this subreddit on the way, and every is updated and on cloud as it's done, hopefluly that makes up for this fiasco haha.

[Inspo] Modern Luxury

Posted: 24 Jun 2018 05:13 PM PDT

Songs that you can listen to while looking at this album to get a feel for it:

Face Your Fear by Curtis Harding

You Keep Me Hangin' On by Vanilla Fudge

Brotha Man by A$AP Rocky ft. French Montana

As of late, I've been getting back into Saint Laurent Paris (Hedi Era) and other brands that compliment the style. What I don't like about the "SLP Aesthetic" is that it basically puts the entire brand within a box.

I knew if I wanted to get back into wearing shit like SLP and such, I knew I needed to do it in a way where I don't just look exactly like someone out of a runway catalog. There are numerous ways of exuding a vintage feel without completely compromising the designers "vision" in a sense. In my opinion, there are plenty of looks that the brand can encompass whilst still being able to accentuate more than just the "modern rockstar/heroin chic" style people normally see here.

Key points will include:

  • Brands that aren't just SLP, but have the same energy with their own distinct aesthetic. Some of them range from highly luxurious brands while some retain the grunge feel that Hedi brought when he came back to SLP in 2012. You'll see brands like AMI, Rhude, Amiri, Garcons Infideles, Haider Ackermann, Prada, etc.

  • Leather jackets, bomber jackets, overcoats, etc.

  • Some casual suiting also included. I'm not really into suiting so much, but I definitely want to get into the less formal version of it.

  • A lot of boots and derbies. Combat boots, harness boots, and some sneakers too.

  • A lot more color and colorful prints. Normally the "slp aesthetic" is generally just monochromatic/darker tones, but I wanted to incorporate more interesting parts of the appropriation of the 70s/80s. Not everything was just super dark and grungy.

  • Most of the looks will have a huge European, primarily Parisian, feel to them. In my opinion, Paris (next to Milan) is the height of luxury, and the brands that exude them mainly come from areas like this.

[ADVERT] Launching a nonprofit platform that sells celebrity clothing

Posted: 24 Jun 2018 01:28 PM PDT

Hey Streetwear Community,

I have been working on a personal project for the past few months and would like to present it to the community to find out if there is any interest for it. I'm launching a platform that gathers pieces (grails, basics, pretty much anything) from celebrities, authenticates and tags them, sells them, and gives away the proceeds to a charity of the buyer's choosing. It's a nonprofit and, ideally, the celebrities (I hate that word as much as the next person) will donate some clothes they don't wear and we will sell them. I'm personally a big fan of Shia LaBeouf's, Cudi's and Vince Staples' styles and always thought it would be awesome to wear some of their stuff. That aside, the platform wouldn't necessarily target "streetwear" related celebrities. Hopefully, we can get some pieces from classic hollywood hall of famers, athletes, politicians and really anyone with a fan base. I feel like many celebrities accumulate so much free stuff over the years and many people would love a chance to wear some of it. I have had trouble getting in contact with celebrities so any help reaching out or potential contacts are more than welcome. I very much believe in the concept and I think it could potentially be a big move, both for charities and fashion enthusiasts. I know how helpful this community can be so I'm hoping we can get somewhere with this!

Here is the website: www.starityshop.com. It's not open yet but it's ready to launch as soon as we get our first few pieces. I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks for reading!

TLDR : Launching website that sells celebrity (artists, athletes, politicians etc...) clothes and gives proceeds to charity. Looking for help reaching out to celebrities!

[DISCUSSION] Apparel w/ embroidery or sewing

Posted: 24 Jun 2018 03:00 PM PDT

my secret agenda for posting: finding my ultimate grail of a high quality krabby patty/spongebob related icon sewn on a plain/polo shirt, not even kidding HMU if you've seen anything relevant to wearable spongebob streetwear

But you know, embroidery/sewing on shirts and stuff tend to feel really high-quality in general – some might overdo it if its too loud i.e. that cherry blossom all over trend. Although, loud embroidery has its own aesthetic in bosozoku (jpn biker gang) culture, with their tokkofuku (gang coats) and sukajan (embroided bomber jackets)

Personally, I think minimalist embroidery like with patches (NASA patch on bombers and shit, you know what I mean) or CDG's heart, look the cleanest and are really quite wearable. You can fit a lot of detail in a little logo badge on your chest and not have it crowd a lazy-look. Currently scouring the net for apparel feat. minimal sews.

And then you have brands like Agora who sometimes have really defined embroidery in their clothing; not completely dominating the piece, but certainly more than a little chest piece. I'm wishy-washy on it, because I think it really has to encompass something special to outweigh the loud-ness, but it's interesting nonetheless.

What are some brands that commonly employ nice embroidery/sewing?

[DISCUSSION] Any good summer shoes?

Posted: 24 Jun 2018 12:19 AM PDT

I have always worn white shoes in summer and just love a good summer sneaker overall. Would love to hear what you guys have been wearing and will be wearing for the rest of summer. I have been wearing the Maison Kitsune Canvas Sneakers which are pretty darn fire but they are getting all used up at the moment. As I've mentioned in my previous post, I don't see much being posted about summer fits. You guys rock some awesome fits but being in southern california, I just can't wear thick leather shoes or boots. Over the years I've worn a lot of Stan Smith and Ultra Boosts, as well as the occasional Reebok Club C but I would love to hear some new suggestions!
