Welcome to the daily WDYWT Thread!

WDYWT = What Did You Wear Today. It doesn't necessarily need to be what you were wearing TODAY. Please make sure you have read the WDYWT rules including information about posting outside of this thread. WDYWT is set to Contest Mode. This means that you will not be able to see the number of upvotes a comment has. Despite this, we still encourage everyone to vote.

A discussion about subreddit rules, reflection on rule changes over the past year, please come and participate

Posted: 23 Jun 2018 10:47 AM PDT

Introduction

Hi guys, it's your least favorite nazi mod back at it again with a rules discussion. There's was a big rule change about 6 months ago, and as mods, we've had some time to reflect on the changes.

Every year, the number of subscribers has more than tripled, yet a common complaint we have seen is a lack of quality and content on this sub, which we have been trying to tackle. Originally, our goal was to promote quality over quantity, by essentially making guidelines that force quality content. However, over the past year, it seems like that goal has been a bit unrealistic. A trend we have seen is that the rules did the opposite, and instead of promoting quality content, we just got less content overall. The content that did the best, were low effort, relatable, and easily consumable content. Our difficulty is this: how can we still give visibility users willing to put in the effort to create high quality content that is harder to consume, while not dampening content that is fun and obviously enjoyable to our users.

Future rule changes

Our subreddit grows quickly. Since the start of 2017, over 500,000 members have joined. Historically, our sub over triples in size every year. A majority of our users are new users. Because of this, we think it's important to adapt the rules to trends we see in the userbase, while still attempting to uphold a certain standard of quality in the posts.

Ideas we are juggling with right now are:

  • "No rule" weekends, mostly applying to restrictions on discussion/image type posts. We will lift guidelines on content such as memes, and anyone, not only whitelisters, can post outfits. This would be an in-between compromise that allows for more content during peak days, and quality content throughout the week. This would also allow us to free up the megathreads and pins over the weekend for more interesting content. Rules 3-5 would still apply.

  • Rethinking post flairs. Some are heavily underused, some are too vague, we are thinking of new ways to categorize posts to make our rules apply more specifically to certain types of content, rather than too broadly and gating content that shouldn't be gated (for example, letting certain types of content bypass the 150 word minimum since it doesn't make sense for that type of content to require a description)

  • Rethinking the whitelist application. I know a lot of you dislike the whitelist system, but we are adamant on the system remaining. However, it has come to our attention that the whitelist favors a very specific type of user, which diminishes variety. However, this does not mean that the whitelist application and requirements to be on the whitelist cannot be redone. If you guys have any suggestions on this, feel free to comment.

  • Contest mode and megathreads will probably not change. We have changed the thread so that contest mode deactivates after 8 hours and a bot will post monthly best of WDYWT albums. Megathreads will remain along with the whitelist system, and contest mode will remain to provide visibility to all users and to dissuade vote brigading/manipulation which has historically been a problem.

  • Incentives for content creation. We will be thinking about how we can promote good, in depth content on this sub. Part of this is reaching out to users to write this content. Content includes reviews of runways, brand histories, comparisons of brands for popular clothing garments such as black jeans, etc. We're unsure what we can use that is enough as incentive for these posts, as they require a decent amount of effort, but we're open to suggestions (outside of straight up monetary compensation).

At this point, we're pretty open to suggestions and feedback. Note that I am a childish condescending nazi mod so if you want your feedback to be taken seriously (by me at least), explain your reasoning thoroughly and be mature about it, and I'll give you thorough and mature consideration and responses.

[Discussion] Grails thread!

Posted: 23 Jun 2018 10:38 PM PDT

Post your all time grail(s) here! Discuss why you like it, why you don't yet have it, and what you're doing to work towards copping it!

For me, my all time absolute grail is the Vetements F/W 16 Metal Logo

I love the cut and the oversized look of this hoodie. It's so heavy and i love how it stacks at the sleeves. I also really like the overly edgy style it gives.

I don't own this piece because it's really difficult to justify Demna's pricing, and I'm also still in high school at a young age, so my style may change throughout the years. I plan to save up after I graduate and buy this for myself by getting a proper job and saving up as much as I can.

Another piece I really love are the Memebaskets

I doubt i'll ever own these because I simply dont have the wardrobe to support a rick owens shoe, but I really like how iconic the silhouette is, with the high-rise tongue and the white accents.

post your grails in here! I'd love to see what unique and rare pieces you guys are interested in.
