[Discussion] Lets talk about thrifting. Love it? Hate it? Pros/Cons? Best Finds? Biggest Regrets? Funny stories? Share it all here

Posted: 04 Apr 2018 05:54 PM PDT

I want to know everyones thoughts on thrifting. I personally love it but a lot of my friends are very against it. Some because of a stigma associated with second hand clothes where I'm from and some because it takes too much time and they'd rather just buy online but maybe you have different thoughts. Let me know down below.

I love nothing more than having a day to myself and doing nothing but a lap of all the local shops. If you find me in a giant unsorted rail of cheap clothes I'll definitely have a smile on my face. Thrifting has been key for me in developing my style as it has given me opportunities to try out things I may not have otherwise been able to afford or have come across in the shops I used to go to.

In Ireland the selection when thrifting is usually quite limited and poor, especially for men. Most shops will have one or two rails with a total of around 40/50 mens items per shop. Of those items 20ish will be items from lower end/basic brands (pennys/primark/zara/topman/marks and spencers/H&M etc) that are priced the same or similar to retail. Then the rest are made up of local charity tee shirts, huge sized trousers and weird jackets. I'm lucky if I find more than one item of interest in a full days thrifting. What are your local thrifts like? Whats your success rate or favourite shops?

Thrifting in foreign countries is one of my favourite things to do as a tourist, I love the story attached to the item that you get when you dig through the thrift trenches and strike gold. My mam lives in America so I always hit up goodwill and whatever else is nearby when I visit. The selection is magnitudes better over where she is, you Americans have it lucky. I went to Brick Lane when I was in London and the amount of shops and vendors was insane to me, I got loads of cool things. I went to a few thrift shops in Berlin and Amsterdam and they both had really cool selections also. Do you like thrifting in other cities also? what are your favourite cities or shops?

I also choose to thrift over buy new items as often as possible because it has less of environmental impact and is a way of me casting a vote against fast fashion. Is this something other people like also?

I think I've enough words typed now so I can stop rambling about thrifting and ya'll can tell me your thoughts and stories about thrifting

[DISCUSSION] Masses want something that makes them feel fashionable and simultaneously makes them fit in. The marker of mass taste is the mortifying fear of standing out. To anyone genuinely interested in fashion this is a paradox. To fashion conglomerates this is a mandate to produce mediocrity.

[discussion] how to diy distress jeans like this?

Posted: 04 Apr 2018 11:37 PM PDT

https://imgur.com/gallery/tooHr

most of this is going to be me just tryna get to a hundred and fifty words but for once I actually like a pair of distressed jeans. I like how the rips are darker than the actual light-ish grey jeans and I really like the scratch marks all over the place. I know this is a simple question but I wanted to get a few opinions since I've never distressed jeans before. Like I said above I normally don't like ripped jeans but these seem more unique to me. I've tried finding something like these online but can't find anything close to this style of distressing, so if you guys have links that would be awesome too. I think urban outfitters sold these but they're not in stock any more… would there be any other way to get these? Any advice is helpful. One hundred and fifty words.

I AM SO HYPED! This is just a small sneak peek of what I've been working on with @guessjeans @guess for our Guess Farmers Market! Always blows my mind seeing an idea come to life!

What do you guys think of the pieces just from the image? Keep in mind this is only a "small sneak peek", so there is probably more coming out with these items. I think the over dyed stuff looks sick! Sean Wotherspoon has been killing it lately with his nike collab (the hat, shirts, and especially the shoes) and now his collab with Guess looks fire af. I look forward to all of the collaborations he does in the future because his type of vintage old school style is super dope. i need ten more words this is just some filler hi whats up

[ADVERT] Help me out by taking part in a short survey about Social Media and its influence on Fashion!

Posted: 04 Apr 2018 04:48 AM PDT

Hey girls and guys of r/streetwear, I'm currently working on a paper/thesis which I need to pass in order to finish my apprenticeship and the subject I chose is "Influence of Social Media on Fashion". Since that is quite a broad and opinonated subject I wanted to hear some other people's thoughts on it.

And that's what I'm here for. I'm conducting a rather small survey and the only thing missing are participants.

That's where you come into play! The survey shouldn't take longer than 5-10 minutes to fill out.

If you have any friends or family which are interested in clothes, sneakers or fashion in general as well, feel free to share!

Here's the link to the Survey: Influence of Social Media on Fashion

All the responses will remain anonymous and you don't need to leave your Email to take part.

After I'm done working on the paper I plan to publish the results of the survey on here for everyone to see.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on the subject :)
